Please read these instructions carefully to ensure optimal performance and longevity of your device.
Setup Guide
What's in the Box
- iRobot Roomba 692 Robot Vacuum
- Home Base Charging Station
- Line Cord
- 1 Dual Mode Virtual Wall Barrier (requires 2 AA batteries, included)
- 1 Extra Filter

Charging the Roomba
Before first use, fully charge your Roomba. Place the Home Base charging station on a hard, level surface against a wall, ensuring there are no obstacles within 3 feet (1 meter) of the front and 1.5 feet (0.5 meters) of each side. Connect the line cord to the Home Base and a power outlet. Place your Roomba onto the Home Base, aligning its charging contacts with those on the base. The battery indicator will pulse amber while charging and turn solid green when fully charged.

Setting up the Dual Mode Virtual Wall Barrier
The Virtual Wall Barrier creates an invisible barrier that Roomba will not cross. Install the two included AA batteries. You can select one of two modes:
- Virtual Wall Mode: When the switch is in the up position, it creates a linear barrier up to 10 feet (3 meters) long. This is ideal for blocking doorways or open areas.
- Halo Mode: When the switch is in the down position, it creates a circular protective zone around the barrier, approximately 2 feet (0.6 meters) in diameter. This is useful for protecting pet bowls, delicate items, or floor plants.
Place the Virtual Wall Barrier on the floor in the area you wish to restrict. Ensure the light on the barrier blinks periodically to confirm it is active.
Connecting to the iRobot HOME App
For enhanced control and scheduling, download the iRobot HOME app from your device's app store. Follow the in-app instructions to connect your Roomba to your home Wi-Fi network. The app allows you to start, stop, schedule cleaning cycles, and monitor your robot's status.
Operation
Starting a Cleaning Cycle
- Manual Start: Press the large CLEAN button on the top of your Roomba.
- Using the App: Open the iRobot HOME app and select 'CLEAN'.
- Voice Assistant: If connected, use voice commands with compatible devices like Google Assistant or Amazon Alexa (e.g., "Alexa, ask Roomba to start cleaning").
Roomba will automatically return to its Home Base to recharge when its battery is low or when a cleaning cycle is complete.
Understanding Cleaning Behavior
The Roomba 692 utilizes a 3-Stage Cleaning System: loosening, lifting, and suctioning dirt. Dual Multi-Surface Brushes work together to grab dirt from carpets and hard floors, while an Edge-Sweeping Brush cleans corners and wall edges. Advanced sensors enable Roomba to navigate under and around furniture. Cliff Detect sensors prevent the robot from falling down stairs or other drop-offs.
Maintenance
Regular maintenance ensures your Roomba operates efficiently. Perform these steps regularly:
Emptying the Dust Bin
Empty the dust bin after each cleaning cycle. Press the bin release tab on the back of the robot, pull out the bin, open its door, and discard debris.
Cleaning the Brushes
At least once a week (more often if you have pets), remove the brush frame by lifting the two green tabs. Remove the Dual Multi-Surface Brushes and the Edge-Sweeping Brush. Clear any hair or debris wrapped around them or trapped in their bearings. Reinstall the brushes securely.
Cleaning the Filter
The filter is located in the dust bin. Remove it and tap it against a trash can to dislodge debris. Replace the filter every 2-3 months, or as needed, to maintain suction performance. Do not wash the filter.
Cleaning Sensors and Charging Contacts
Periodically wipe the robot's sensors and charging contacts with a clean, dry cloth. This includes the cliff sensors on the bottom, the bumper sensor, and the charging contacts on both the robot and the Home Base.
Troubleshooting
Common Issues
- Roomba not charging: Ensure the Home Base is plugged in and the charging contacts on both the robot and base are clean.
- Roomba not cleaning effectively: Empty the dust bin, clean the brushes, and replace the filter if necessary.
- Roomba getting stuck: Clear obstacles from the cleaning area. Use the Virtual Wall Barrier to block off problematic zones.
- Roomba making unusual noises: Check brushes and wheels for tangled hair or debris.
Error Indicators
Your Roomba may communicate errors through indicator lights or spoken messages. Refer to the iRobot HOME app for detailed explanations of specific error codes and recommended solutions. Often, clearing debris from brushes or sensors resolves many issues.
