1. Introduction and Product Overview
This manual provides essential information for the safe and efficient operation and maintenance of your FibroPool Sand Filter Pump System. The FSP series filter systems are designed for above-ground swimming pools, utilizing sand as a filtration medium and featuring a 6-position multiport valve for versatile operation. This system is built on a durable base and includes necessary hose adapters and unions for connection to most standard pools. Proudly designed, engineered, and assembled in the USA, this system aims to provide high efficiency and reliable performance for your pool.
The system is ideal for above ground pools up to 18,000 gallons (e.g., 24ft round or 16x32 oval pools).

2. Safety Information
Please read all safety instructions carefully before installation and operation. Failure to follow these instructions could result in serious injury or property damage.
- Electrical Safety: Ensure the power source is 220 Volts and matches the pump's requirements. Always connect the pump to a grounded outlet protected by a Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter (GFCI). Do not operate the pump if the power cord is damaged. Keep all electrical connections dry.
- Water Safety: Never operate the pump dry. Ensure the pump is primed with water before starting. Do not allow children to operate or play near the pool equipment.
- Pressure Safety: The filter system operates under pressure. Do not attempt to open the filter or pump while the system is running. Always relieve pressure before performing any maintenance or service.
- Installation: Install the system on a firm, level surface. Ensure adequate ventilation around the pump and filter.
- Chemicals: Handle pool chemicals with care and store them safely away from the filter system.

4. Setup and Installation
Follow these steps for proper installation of your FibroPool Sand Filter Pump System.
- Positioning: Place the durable equipment base on a firm, level surface near your above-ground pool. Ensure the location allows for proper drainage and is protected from direct weather exposure if possible.
- Filter Tank Assembly:
- Place the filter tank onto the equipment base.
- Fill the filter tank with the appropriate amount of filter sand (sand not included). The FSP series can utilize up to 220 lbs of sand. Refer to the tank's label for specific sand requirements for your model.
- Carefully install the 6-position multiport valve onto the top of the filter tank. Ensure the O-ring is properly seated and secure the valve with the provided clamp.
- Install the pressure gauge into the designated port on the multiport valve.

Figure 4.2: A close-up view of the 6-position multiport valve and its securing clamp, ready for installation on the filter tank.
- Pump Installation:
- Place the pump unit onto the equipment base next to the filter tank.
- Connect the schedule 40 connector hose between the pump's discharge port and the "PUMP" port on the multiport valve. Use the provided unions and apply PTFE tape to all threaded connections for a leak-proof seal.
- Connect the pool's skimmer line to the pump's suction inlet. Use the appropriate hose adapters and clamps provided to ensure a secure fit. The pump features 1.5-inch threaded connections for near-universal compatibility.
- Connect the pool's return line to the "RETURN" port on the multiport valve, again using appropriate adapters and PTFE tape.
- Ensure the drain/waste port on the multiport valve is directed to a suitable drainage area.

- Electrical Connection:
- Ensure all plumbing connections are tight and leak-free.
- Verify the pump's clear top lid (strainer basket cover) is securely fastened.
- Plug the 6-foot weatherproof power cable into a 220 Volt grounded outlet protected by a GFCI.

5. Operation
The FibroPool Sand Filter Pump System features a user-friendly 6-position multiport valve and a high-efficiency single-speed pump for straightforward operation.
Multiport Valve Functions:
Always turn off the pump before changing the multiport valve position to prevent damage to the valve or system.
- FILTER: Normal filtering operation. Water flows through the sand bed, trapping debris, and returns to the pool.
- BACKWASH: Used for cleaning the filter sand. Water flows in reverse through the filter, flushing trapped debris out the waste port.
- RINSE: Used after backwashing to settle the sand bed and flush any remaining dirty water to waste before returning to filter mode.
- WASTE/DRAIN: Bypasses the filter and pumps water directly out the waste port. Useful for lowering pool water level or vacuuming heavy debris directly to waste.
- RECIRCULATE/BYPASS: Bypasses the filter and circulates water directly back to the pool. Useful for distributing chemicals without filtering.
- CLOSED: Shuts off flow to the filter and pump. Use only when performing maintenance on the pump or filter, and ensure the pump is off.
Starting the System:
- Ensure the pool is filled to the proper level and all connections are secure.
- Set the multiport valve to the "FILTER" position.
- Turn on the pump. The ABG series pumps can push up to 4500 gallons per hour (GPH) at 3400 RPM.
- Observe the pressure gauge. The initial clean filter pressure should be noted. This will be your baseline.

6. Maintenance
Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and optimal performance of your FibroPool Sand Filter Pump System.
- Backwashing: When the pressure gauge reads 8-10 PSI above your clean filter pressure, it's time to backwash.
- Turn off the pump.
- Set the multiport valve to "BACKWASH".
- Turn on the pump and backwash for 2-3 minutes, or until the water from the waste port runs clear.
- Turn off the pump.
- Set the multiport valve to "RINSE".
- Turn on the pump and rinse for 30-60 seconds.
- Turn off the pump.
- Set the multiport valve back to "FILTER".
- Turn on the pump.
- Pump Strainer Basket Cleaning: The clear top lid allows for easy inspection. Periodically check and clean the pump's strainer basket to remove leaves and debris.
- Turn off the pump and ensure it is unplugged.
- Close any necessary valves to prevent water flow from the pool.
- Unscrew the clear top lid of the pump.
- Remove and empty the strainer basket. Rinse it thoroughly.
- Inspect the O-ring on the lid for cracks or wear. Lubricate if necessary.
- Replace the basket and securely fasten the lid.
- Re-open valves and prime the pump if necessary before restarting.
- Winterization: Consult a pool professional or refer to specific winterization guidelines for your region. Generally, the system should be drained, disconnected, and stored in a frost-free environment during winter months.
