  • Power Inlet & Switch: IEC power connector and main power switch.

5. Setup

5.1 Placement

The A77H is designed as a midfield monitor and should be placed horizontally. Optimal placement is crucial for accurate stereo imaging and frequency response. Position the monitors symmetrically in your listening environment, forming an equilateral triangle with your listening position. Ensure the X-ART tweeter is at ear level.

ADAM Audio A77H monitors set up horizontally on stands in a professional studio environment, flanking a computer monitor and audio equipment.

The X-ART tweeter on the A77H is rotatable. If vertical placement is necessary, rotate the tweeter assembly to maintain optimal dispersion characteristics. Refer to the detailed instructions in the full manual for tweeter rotation.

5.2 Connections

  1. Power: Connect the provided power cable to the IEC inlet on the rear panel and then to a suitable AC power outlet. Ensure the power switch is in the OFF position before connecting.
  2. Audio Input: Connect your audio source (e.g., audio interface, mixer) to the XLR or RCA input connectors on the rear panel. Use high-quality balanced XLR cables for professional setups.
  3. Remote Control (Optional): For advanced DSP control and firmware updates, connect an Ethernet cable from the "Remote Control" port to your computer or network.

5.3 Initial Power On

Once all connections are secure, switch on your audio source first, then power on the A77H monitor using the rear panel switch. When powering off, switch off the monitor first, then your audio source.

6. Operating the A77H

6.1 DSP-based Tuning and Room Adaptation

The A77H features onboard DSP for precise tuning and room adaptation. These controls are located on the rear panel and can also be accessed via the ADAM Audio A Control software (available for download from the ADAM Audio website) when connected via Ethernet.

  • Desk: Adjusts the low-mid frequency response to compensate for reflections from a desk surface.
  • Presence: Controls the mid-range clarity and detail.
  • Treble: Adjusts the high-frequency response.

Experiment with these controls to achieve the most neutral and accurate sound reproduction for your specific room acoustics.

6.2 Voicing Options

The "Voicing" switch allows you to select different sound profiles:

  • Pure: Provides a highly accurate, neutral frequency response, ideal for critical mixing and mastering.
  • UNR (Uniform Natural Response): Offers a more natural and musical response, suitable for general listening and tracking.
  • Ext (Extended): May offer additional customization options or specific frequency curves, refer to the A Control software for details.

6.3 Level Adjustment

Use the "Level" knob on the rear panel to set the overall output volume of the monitor. It is recommended to start with a lower level and gradually increase it to a comfortable listening volume.

7. Maintenance

  • Cleaning: Disconnect the monitor from power before cleaning. Use a soft, dry, lint-free cloth to wipe the cabinet. Do not use liquid cleaners, aerosols, or abrasive materials.
  • Ventilation: Ensure that the ventilation openings on the monitor are not blocked to prevent overheating.
  • Storage: If storing the monitor for an extended period, keep it in a dry, dust-free environment, preferably in its original packaging.
