Maintenance
Regular cleaning and maintenance will ensure the longevity and optimal performance of your Keurig K-Compact coffee maker.
Cleaning the Exterior
- Unplug the brewer before cleaning.
- Wipe the exterior with a damp, soapy cloth. Rinse thoroughly.
- Do not immerse the brewer in water or other liquids.
Cleaning the Drip Tray
- The drip tray can accumulate drips and spills. Remove the drip tray and empty it.
- Wash the drip tray and its cover with warm, soapy water. Rinse thoroughly and dry.
Cleaning the K-Cup Pod Holder
- The K-Cup pod holder can be removed for cleaning.
- Separate the funnel from the pod holder. Wash both parts with warm, soapy water.
- Ensure the exit needle is clear of any coffee grounds. A paper clip can be used to clear any blockages.
Descaling
Over time, calcium deposits (scale) can build up in your brewer. Descaling helps maintain the brewer's performance. The frequency of descaling depends on the mineral content of your water. It is generally recommended every 3-6 months.
- Prepare Descaling Solution: Empty the water reservoir and remove any K-Cup pod. Pour a full bottle of Keurig Descaling Solution into the water reservoir. Fill the empty bottle with water and pour it into the reservoir.
- First Descaling Brew: Place a large mug on the drip tray. Lift and lower the handle. Select the largest brew size. Discard the hot water. Repeat this process until the 'Add Water' light illuminates.
- Soak: Let the brewer stand for at least 30 minutes.
- Rinse Brews: After soaking, empty the reservoir and rinse it thoroughly with fresh water. Fill the reservoir with fresh water up to the MAX fill line. Perform at least 12 cleansing brews (without a K-Cup pod) using the largest brew size, refilling the reservoir with fresh water as needed.
Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues with your Keurig K-Compact, refer to the following common problems and solutions.
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Brewer does not power on. | No power, or power button not pressed. | Ensure the brewer is plugged into a working outlet. Press the power button. |
| 'Add Water' light is on. | Water reservoir is low or empty. | Fill the water reservoir with fresh water to the MAX fill line. |
| Coffee is not brewing. | No water, K-Cup pod not properly seated, or air in lines. | Check water level. Ensure K-Cup pod is correctly inserted and handle is fully lowered. Perform a cleansing brew without a K-Cup to clear air. |
| Coffee tastes weak or watery. | Incorrect brew size selected, or K-Cup pod is old. | Use a smaller brew size (e.g., 6 oz.) for a stronger brew. Use fresh K-Cup pods. |
| Brewer is leaking. | Drip tray is full, or water reservoir is not seated correctly. | Empty the drip tray. Ensure the water reservoir is securely in place. |
