Safety Information

  • Only use genuine Makita 18V LXT® Lithium-Ion batteries. Use of non-genuine batteries may cause fire, personal injury, or property damage.

Components

The Makita DML816 Flashlight includes the following components:

  • Makita DML816 18V LXT® LED Flashlight Unit
  • Flashlight Hook Band Set (GM00002331)

Note: Battery and charger are sold separately.

Setup

1. Battery Installation

  1. Ensure the flashlight is turned off.
  2. Align the Makita 18V LXT® Lithium-Ion battery with the battery receptacle on the base of the flashlight.
  3. Slide the battery into the receptacle until it clicks securely into place. Do not force the battery.
  4. To remove the battery, press the release button on the battery and slide it out.

2. Initial Inspection

Before first use, inspect the flashlight for any visible damage. Ensure the LED panel is clean and free from obstructions. Verify that the head articulation mechanism moves smoothly.

Operating Instructions

1. Powering On/Off

Press the power button located on the handle to turn the flashlight on. Press the button again to cycle through brightness modes and to turn it off.

2. Adjusting Brightness Modes

The DML816 features three brightness modes:

  • High: Delivers 500 lumens for maximum illumination.
  • Medium: Provides 250 lumens for balanced brightness and runtime.
  • Low: Offers 100 lumens for extended runtime or less intense lighting needs.

Cycle through these modes by repeatedly pressing the power button.

3. Adjusting Flashlight Head Angle

The flashlight head can be folded up and down with 7 positive stops, and it rotates left to right. This allows for multiple lighting angles to direct light precisely where needed.

4. Using the Metal Hang Hook

The integrated metal hang hook provides a convenient way to suspend the flashlight, transforming it into an overhead light. This feature is designed for job site durability.

Maintenance

1. Cleaning

Regularly wipe the flashlight body with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners. Keep the LED panel clean for optimal light output.

2. Battery Care and Storage

  • Always remove the battery from the flashlight when not in use for extended periods.
  • Store batteries in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
  • Charge batteries using only Makita-approved chargers.

Troubleshooting
