PULACO UV-c Aquarium Algae Clean Light Instruction Manual

Model: PL-UV 5W

Important Safety Information

WARNING: UV-C radiation is harmful to eyes and skin. Never expose fish or other aquatic life to direct UV-C light. Always ensure the UV light is fully submerged and enclosed within a filtration system where it cannot be seen or accessed by tank inhabitants.

This device is designed for use only within an aquarium filtration system. Do not operate the UV light outside of water or in a manner that allows direct exposure to living organisms.

Warning: Do not install UV light directly in fish water zone

Image Description: A warning graphic showing a red triangle with an exclamation mark. Below it, text states: "Please do not install the UV light into the fish water zone! UV rays are harmful to fishes, please install the UV light only in the fish tank filtration system, somewhere fishes can not see it or expose to it. Otherwise, UV light could kill the fish!" An illustration shows a UV light submerged directly in a fish tank with a red 'X' over it, indicating incorrect installation.

Product Overview

The PULACO UV-c Aquarium Algae Clean Light is designed to help maintain clear aquarium water by reducing free-floating algae and harmful bacteria. It features a compact design for easy integration into various filtration systems.

Components:

Setup and Installation

  1. Unpack: Carefully remove all components from the packaging. Inspect for any damage.
  2. Placement: The UV-c light must be installed within your aquarium's filtration system (e.g., canister filter, sump, or a dedicated filter compartment) where water flows past it, but fish and other aquatic life cannot directly see or be exposed to the UV light.
  3. Secure the Unit: Use the provided suction cups to secure the UV light unit firmly inside the filter compartment. Ensure it is fully submerged in water when the filter is operating. If using a foam sleeve, insert the UV light into the sleeve before placing it in the filter.
  4. Connect Power: Once the unit is securely installed and fully submerged, connect the power plug to a suitable electrical outlet.
  5. Activate: Use the inline on/off switch on the power cord to turn on the UV light.
Correct and incorrect installation of UV light

Image Description: A diagram illustrating correct and incorrect installation methods for the UV algae clean light. The "Correct Installation" shows the UV light placed horizontally within an external filter, with water flowing around it, and fish safely in the main tank. The "Wrong Installation" shows the UV light placed directly inside the fish tank, exposing fish to the UV rays, which is explicitly marked with a red 'X'.

Important: Ensure the UV light is always fully submerged in water when operating. Operating it dry can lead to overheating and damage.

Operating Instructions

The PULACO UV-c Algae Clean Light is designed for continuous operation to effectively control algae and pathogens in your aquarium water. Once installed and powered on, it will begin to sterilize the water passing through your filter.

Caution: Do not look directly at the illuminated UV bulb. UV-C light is invisible but harmful.

Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures optimal performance and longevity of your UV-c light.

  1. Power Off: Always unplug the unit from the power outlet before performing any maintenance.
  2. Clean Quartz Sleeve: Over time, mineral deposits and algae can accumulate on the quartz sleeve, reducing UV light penetration. Gently remove the UV unit from the filter. Carefully clean the quartz sleeve with a soft cloth or sponge and warm water. Avoid abrasive cleaners.
  3. Inspect for Damage: Periodically inspect the power cord, plug, and the UV unit for any signs of damage, cracks, or leaks. If any damage is found, discontinue use immediately.
  4. Bulb Replacement: The UV bulb has a limited effective lifespan (typically 6-12 months of continuous use). When the bulb's effectiveness diminishes, it should be replaced. Refer to the product specifications for compatible replacement bulbs.
  5. Reinstallation: After cleaning or bulb replacement, carefully reassemble the unit and reinstall it in the filter, ensuring all seals are properly seated and the unit is fully submerged before restoring power.
