Important Safety Information
WARNING: UV-C radiation is harmful to eyes and skin. Never expose fish or other aquatic life to direct UV-C light. Always ensure the UV light is fully submerged and enclosed within a filtration system where it cannot be seen or accessed by tank inhabitants.
This device is designed for use only within an aquarium filtration system. Do not operate the UV light outside of water or in a manner that allows direct exposure to living organisms.

Image Description: A warning graphic showing a red triangle with an exclamation mark. Below it, text states: "Please do not install the UV light into the fish water zone! UV rays are harmful to fishes, please install the UV light only in the fish tank filtration system, somewhere fishes can not see it or expose to it. Otherwise, UV light could kill the fish!" An illustration shows a UV light submerged directly in a fish tank with a red 'X' over it, indicating incorrect installation.
Product Overview
The PULACO UV-c Aquarium Algae Clean Light is designed to help maintain clear aquarium water by reducing free-floating algae and harmful bacteria. It features a compact design for easy integration into various filtration systems.

Image Description: An overhead view of the PULACO UV-c Aquarium Algae Clean Light. The image highlights its dimensions: the UV light unit is 7.5 inches long and 1.1 inches wide. The power cord is indicated as 5.0 feet long, connected to an inline switch and a standard two-prong plug.
Components:
- UV-c Lamp Unit (Glass tube with UV bulb inside)
- Protective Quartz Sleeve (enclosing the UV bulb)
- Power Cord with Inline On/Off Switch
- Suction Cups (for mounting, if included)
- Protective Foam Sleeve (for installation in some filters)

Image Description: The PULACO UV-c light unit shown alongside a white cylindrical foam sleeve. This sleeve is used to protect the UV light and help secure it within certain filter compartments.
Setup and Installation
- Unpack: Carefully remove all components from the packaging. Inspect for any damage.
- Placement: The UV-c light must be installed within your aquarium's filtration system (e.g., canister filter, sump, or a dedicated filter compartment) where water flows past it, but fish and other aquatic life cannot directly see or be exposed to the UV light.
- Secure the Unit: Use the provided suction cups to secure the UV light unit firmly inside the filter compartment. Ensure it is fully submerged in water when the filter is operating. If using a foam sleeve, insert the UV light into the sleeve before placing it in the filter.
- Connect Power: Once the unit is securely installed and fully submerged, connect the power plug to a suitable electrical outlet.
- Activate: Use the inline on/off switch on the power cord to turn on the UV light.

Image Description: A diagram illustrating correct and incorrect installation methods for the UV algae clean light. The "Correct Installation" shows the UV light placed horizontally within an external filter, with water flowing around it, and fish safely in the main tank. The "Wrong Installation" shows the UV light placed directly inside the fish tank, exposing fish to the UV rays, which is explicitly marked with a red 'X'.
Important: Ensure the UV light is always fully submerged in water when operating. Operating it dry can lead to overheating and damage.
Operating Instructions
The PULACO UV-c Algae Clean Light is designed for continuous operation to effectively control algae and pathogens in your aquarium water. Once installed and powered on, it will begin to sterilize the water passing through your filter.
- Initial Use: For severe algae blooms, continuous operation for several days to a week may be necessary to achieve clear water.
- Ongoing Maintenance: For preventative maintenance, the UV light can be operated continuously or on a timer for several hours per day, depending on your aquarium's needs and algae growth rate.
- Monitoring: Observe your aquarium water clarity. Adjust operating time as needed.
Caution: Do not look directly at the illuminated UV bulb. UV-C light is invisible but harmful.
Maintenance
Regular maintenance ensures optimal performance and longevity of your UV-c light.
- Power Off: Always unplug the unit from the power outlet before performing any maintenance.
- Clean Quartz Sleeve: Over time, mineral deposits and algae can accumulate on the quartz sleeve, reducing UV light penetration. Gently remove the UV unit from the filter. Carefully clean the quartz sleeve with a soft cloth or sponge and warm water. Avoid abrasive cleaners.
- Inspect for Damage: Periodically inspect the power cord, plug, and the UV unit for any signs of damage, cracks, or leaks. If any damage is found, discontinue use immediately.
- Bulb Replacement: The UV bulb has a limited effective lifespan (typically 6-12 months of continuous use). When the bulb's effectiveness diminishes, it should be replaced. Refer to the product specifications for compatible replacement bulbs.
- Reinstallation: After cleaning or bulb replacement, carefully reassemble the unit and reinstall it in the filter, ensuring all seals are properly seated and the unit is fully submerged before restoring power.
