4. Setup and Installation

Proper installation is crucial for the optimal performance of your HANSSHOW Head Up Display. Please follow these steps carefully. It is recommended to watch the official installation video for visual guidance.

4.1 Identify Your Tesla's CPU Type

The wiring harness required depends on your Tesla's infotainment processor (CPU). To identify your CPU:

  1. On your Tesla's main screen, navigate to Controls > Software.
  2. Tap on Additional vehicle information (usually in blue letters).
  3. Locate Infotainment Processor to see if it's Intel Atom or AMD Ryzen.

4.2 Power Down Your Tesla

Before beginning any electrical work, it is essential to power down your vehicle:

  1. Open all car doors and pop the hood (frunk).
  2. On your Tesla's main screen, navigate to Controls > Safety.
  3. Tap on Power Off. Confirm the power off.
  4. Wait approximately 15 minutes until you hear a distinct click sound, indicating the car is fully powered down.
  5. In the frunk, use a 10mm socket wrench to loosen and remove the negative terminal cable from the 12V battery. Secure the cable away from any metal objects.
  6. For Model 3, lift the rear seat cushion to access and disconnect the high-voltage connector.

4.3 Dashboard Disassembly

Carefully remove the dashboard trim pieces using the provided plastic pry bar:

  1. Remove the side trim pieces on both the driver and passenger sides of the dashboard.
  2. Gently lift the front edge of the dashboard panel to release it from its clips. Do this on both sides.
  3. Angle the dashboard upwards and carefully lift the entire panel out.
  4. On the passenger side, remove the panel underneath the glove box by popping out its five trim clips. Disconnect the two wires for the speaker and footwell light.
  5. Remove the long trim piece that runs from the dash down along the door sill.

4.4 Wiring Connections

Connect the appropriate wiring harness based on your CPU type:

  1. Locate the main wiring harness connector behind the passenger side dashboard. This is typically the second plug from the right, next to the inside wall.
  2. Carefully disconnect the existing car harness.
  3. Connect the female end of the provided Y-harness to the car's original connector.
  4. Connect the male end of the Y-harness to the now-empty port on the car.
  5. For AMD Ryzen CPUs, run the additional power cable (red and black wires) through the car's front firewall and connect it to the 12V battery in the frunk.
  6. Route the red and blue wires from the display through the dashboard vent holes. Use painter's tape to mark the 25th vent hole (for the left tab) and the 32nd vent hole (for the blue wire).
  7. Insert the display's left-most tab into the marked 25th vent hole and push the display all the way in. Ensure wires are not pinched.
  8. Attach the metal backing plate to the underside of the dashboard, aligning the holes with the display tabs. Insert and tighten the six screws.

4.5 Reassembly

Reassemble the dashboard and trim pieces in reverse order of disassembly. Ensure all connections are secure and wires are neatly tucked away to prevent rattling.
