4. Setup and Installation

Proper wiring is critical for the safe and correct operation of the BMS. Please follow these instructions carefully.

4.1. Wiring Sequence

  1. Connect the sampling cable (B-line, typically a blue thick line) to the total negative electrode of the battery pack. Ensure the B-line length does not exceed 40cm.
  2. Connect the total negative electrode B- from the fine black wire.
  3. The second wire (red wire) connects to the positive pole of the first string of batteries. Continue connecting the positive electrode of each subsequent battery string in turn until the last wire connects to the total positive B+.
  4. After all wires are connected, do not insert the plug directly into the BMS. First, measure the voltage between each two adjacent metal terminals on the back of the plug.
  5. For a ternary lithium battery, the voltage should be between 3.0-4.15V.
  6. For a lithium iron phosphate (LiFePO4) battery, the voltage should be between 1.8-2.8V.
  7. Ensure the voltage readings are correct before proceeding to the next step.

4.2. Post-Wiring Verification

  1. Measure whether the voltage of battery B+ and B- is equal to the voltage of B+ and P-. If these voltages are equal, the BMS is functioning correctly and can be used. If not, carefully re-check the wiring sequence.
  2. The positive electrodes of both the charging and discharging ends are directly connected to the total positive pole B+ of the battery.
  3. For a common port BMS, the charging and discharging negative poles are connected to the P- point of the BMS.
  4. For a separate port BMS, the negative pole of charging connects to C-, and the negative electrode of discharge connects to P-.

5. Operating Instructions

The DALY BMS operates automatically to provide essential battery protection. For advanced monitoring and control, utilize its smart communication features.

5.1. Smart BMS Functionality

  • Bluetooth Connection: Connect the BMS via a Bluetooth module (if included or purchased separately) to your smartphone.
  • Smartphone APP: Download and use the official DALY BMS APP, named 'SMART', to monitor battery status in real-time. The APP supports both Android and iOS systems.
  • Parameter Monitoring & Setting: Through the APP, you can freely check and set various battery parameters, including individual cell voltage, total voltage, temperature, State of Charge (SOC), and charge/discharge cycles.
  • PC Display: For detailed analysis and monitoring, the BMS can be connected to a PC via UART, CAN, or 485 communication interfaces to display real-time data.

6. Maintenance

To ensure the longevity and reliable performance of your DALY BMS, adhere to the following maintenance guidelines:

  • Connection Checks: Periodically inspect all wiring connections to ensure they are tight and free from corrosion. Loose connections can lead to poor performance or damage.
  • Cleanliness: Keep the BMS unit clean and free from dust, dirt, and moisture. Use a dry, soft cloth for cleaning.
  • Environmental Conditions: Avoid exposing the BMS to extreme temperatures, high humidity, or direct physical shock. Operate within the specified environmental limits.
  • Monitoring: Regularly monitor battery parameters through the smart APP to detect any unusual behavior or potential issues early.

7. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your DALY BMS, consider the following troubleshooting steps:

  • BMS Not Functioning: If the BMS does not appear to be working normally after installation, carefully re-check the entire wiring sequence as described in Section 4. Pay close attention to the balance leads and main power connections.
  • Voltage Discrepancies: Verify all individual cell voltages and the total pack voltage are within the specified operational ranges using a multimeter. Incorrect voltages can indicate wiring errors or cell imbalance.
  • Communication Issues: If the smart APP or PC software cannot connect to the BMS, ensure the Bluetooth module or communication cable is correctly connected and powered. Check for any driver issues on the PC.
  • Over-protection Triggered: If the BMS frequently triggers overcurrent, overcharge, or overdischarge protection, review your battery usage patterns and ensure they are within the BMS's specified limits.
  • Persistent Problems: If issues persist after attempting these steps, please contact DALY customer service for further technical support.

8. Safety Information

Adhering to safety precautions is paramount when working with battery management systems and high-voltage battery packs.

  • Professional Installation: Installation should ideally be performed by individuals with knowledge of battery systems and electronics.
  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Always wear appropriate PPE, including safety glasses and insulated gloves, when handling batteries and BMS components.
  • Short Circuit Prevention: Ensure all connections are properly insulated to prevent accidental short circuits, which can cause severe damage or injury.
  • No Disassembly: Do not attempt to disassemble, modify, or repair the BMS unit. This can void the warranty and pose safety risks.
  • Ventilation: Ensure adequate ventilation around the battery pack and BMS, especially during charging and discharging.
  • Disposal: Dispose of batteries and electronic components according to local regulations and environmental guidelines.
