Operating Instructions
Testing the Alarm:
Regular testing ensures your smoke alarm is functioning correctly. Press the large test button on the alarm for approximately 5 seconds. A loud, high-pitched sound will indicate that the alarm is working. For a quiet self-test, press the button once. For a loud test, press it twice.
Silence Function (False Alarms):
In the event of a known false alarm (e.g., from cooking fumes), press the test button for 5 seconds to temporarily silence the alarm for 8 minutes. The alarm will reset to normal mode after this period.
Sleep Easy Function (Low Battery):
If a low battery alert occurs, particularly at night, you can silence the smoke detector for 8 hours by pressing the test button. During this 'Sleep Easy' mode, the alarm will be muted, but the red LED will continue to flash, and the alarm will still detect smoke. The device should be replaced within 30 days of the first low battery alert.

Maintenance
Proper maintenance ensures the longevity and effectiveness of your smoke alarm.
- Test Monthly: Perform a self-test at least once a month to confirm functionality.
- Vacuum Every 3 Months: Gently vacuum the alarm's vents every three months to remove dust and debris that could obstruct the sensor.
- Do NOT Use Cleaners or Solvents: Avoid using any cleaning agents, sprays, or solvents on the device as they can damage the sensor or internal components.
- Do NOT Paint the Alarm: Painting the alarm can block the vents and interfere with its ability to detect smoke.
- Cover During DIY Tasks: If performing dusty DIY tasks nearby, temporarily cover the alarm to prevent dust ingress, and uncover it immediately afterward.
- Battery Life: The alarm is fitted with a sealed, tamper-proof battery designed to last the entire 10-year lifespan of the unit. The battery is not replaceable.
- Replacement: Smoke alarms should be replaced every 10 years from the date of manufacture.

Placement Guidelines
Correct placement is crucial for effective smoke detection.
- Smoke detectors should be sited at least 300 mm (approximately 12 inches) from light fittings and walls to ensure proper air circulation and smoke detection.
- This alarm is not suitable for placement in kitchens or bathrooms due to potential nuisance alarms from cooking fumes or steam.
- The device is suitable for use in leisure accommodation vehicles (LAV).

Troubleshooting
- Intermittent Chirping: If the alarm emits an unusual or intermittent chirping sound, this typically indicates a low battery warning. Utilize the 'Sleep Easy' function to silence it for 8 hours, and plan to replace the unit within 30 days. Also, check the device's location and vacuum the alarm to ensure no dust is interfering with its operation.
- Alarm Not Sounding During Test: Ensure you are pressing the test button for the full 5 seconds. If the alarm still does not sound, the unit may be faulty and should be replaced immediately.
- Frequent Nuisance Alarms: If the alarm frequently triggers without a fire, review its placement. It should not be located near kitchens, bathrooms, or areas with high humidity or cooking fumes.
