1. Introduction

The SmallRig RA-D55 Parabolic Softbox is a professional light modifier designed for photographers and videographers. 3. Setup

The RA-D55 Parabolic Softbox features a quick-release design for efficient setup.

3.1 Assembling the Softbox

1. Remove the softbox from its carrying case.
2. Place the softbox on a flat surface with the Bowens mount facing upwards.
3. Gently press down on the center of the Bowens mount with both hands until the softbox expands and locks into its parabolic shape. You will hear a 'click' sound as the ribs lock.
4. Attach the internal diffusion cloth to the interior of the softbox using the integrated Velcro fasteners.
5. Attach the external diffusion cloth to the outer edge of the softbox, securing it with the Velcro.
6. For more controlled light, attach the honeycomb grid to the outer edge of the softbox using its Velcro fasteners.

3.2 Attaching to a Light Source

1. Align the Bowens mount of the softbox with the Bowens mount on your compatible LED light (e.g., SmallRig RC 120D/B, RC 220D/B).
2. Insert the softbox mount into the light's mount and rotate clockwise until it locks securely.
3. Ensure the softbox is firmly attached before operating the light.

4. Operation

4.1 Light Diffusion and Control

• The dual diffusion cloths (internal and external) provide a soft and even light output, reducing harsh shadows.
• The included honeycomb grid narrows the beam angle to 45°, offering precise control over light spill and direction. This is particularly useful for accentuating subjects and creating dramatic lighting effects.

5. Maintenance

5.1 Cleaning

• To clean the exterior fabric, use a soft, damp cloth. Avoid harsh chemicals.
• The diffusion cloths can be gently hand-washed with mild soap and air-dried.
• Ensure all components are completely dry before storing.

5.2 Storage

After use, disassemble the softbox by pressing the release tabs on the Bowens mount and allowing the ribs to collapse. Store all components in the provided carry bag in a cool, dry place to prevent damage and prolong product life.

6. Troubleshooting

6.1 Softbox Not Opening/Closing Smoothly

• Ensure all 16 ribs are properly aligned and not bent.
• Apply gentle, even pressure when expanding or collapsing the softbox. Avoid forcing the mechanism.

6.2 Light Leakage

• Verify that the diffusion cloths are securely attached with all Velcro fasteners.
• Check the connection between the softbox and the light source to ensure it is fully seated and locked.
