3. Setup and Assembly

The BLACK+DECKER BCED400C1 edger requires minimal assembly. Ensure all components are present before beginning.

3.1 Unpacking and Component Check:

Carefully remove all items from the packaging. The kit typically includes:

• 20V MAX* 1.5 Ah Battery

3.2 Handle Assembly:

Follow the instructions provided in the product manual for attaching the auxiliary handle to the main shaft. Ensure it is securely fastened for safe operation.

3.3 Battery Installation:

Align the battery with the battery port on the edger handle. Slide the battery into place until it clicks securely. To remove, press the release button and slide the battery out.

4.1 Charging the Battery:

4.3 Using the Edge Guide:

The integrated edge guide helps maintain a straight and consistent cut. Position the guide along the edge of your sidewalk, driveway, or flower bed. This ensures precision and prevents accidental cutting into desired areas.

4.4 Starting and Stopping:

To start the edger, ensure the battery is installed and firmly press the safety lock-off button, then squeeze the trigger switch. To stop, release the trigger switch. Always release the trigger and allow the blade to stop completely before setting the tool down or making adjustments.

4.5 Edging Technique:

Hold the edger firmly with both hands. Walk slowly and steadily, guiding the blade along the desired edge. Avoid forcing the tool, especially through thick growth. Allow the blade to do the work. For trenching, adjust the depth as needed and make multiple passes if the material is dense.

5. Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures optimal performance and longevity of your edger.

5.1 Cleaning:

After each use, disconnect the battery and clean the edger. Remove any grass clippings, dirt, or debris from the blade, guard, and motor housing. Use a dry cloth or soft brush. Do not use water or harsh chemicals.

5.2 Blade Inspection and Replacement:

Regularly inspect the blade for wear, damage, or dullness. A dull or damaged blade can reduce cutting efficiency and increase strain on the motor. Refer to the detailed instructions in your product manual for safe blade replacement. Always use genuine BLACK+DECKER replacement blades.

5.3 Battery Care:

Store batteries in a cool, dry place. Do not store batteries in direct sunlight or where temperatures can exceed 104°F (40°C). For long-term storage, charge the battery to approximately 50% capacity.
