4. Operation (Testing & Silencing)

Regular testing ensures your smoke alarm is always ready to protect your home.

  • Silencing Nuisance Alarms: In case of a false alarm (e.g., from cooking fumes), press the Test/Silence button once to temporarily silence the alarm for approximately 10 minutes. The alarm will automatically reset after this period. If the smoke persists, the alarm will reactivate.
  • Sleep Easy Function: If the alarm chirps intermittently due to a low battery warning during the night, press the Test/Silence button to mute the low battery alert for 8 hours. This allows you to address the issue during daylight hours.

  • For optimal protection, consider installing alarms in living rooms and bedrooms.

  • DO NOT use cleaners or solvents: Never use cleaning agents, solvents, or harsh chemicals on the device. Wipe with a slightly damp cloth if necessary.
  • DO NOT paint the alarm: Painting the alarm can block the sensor openings and prevent it from detecting smoke.

7. Troubleshooting

If your smoke alarm exhibits unusual behavior, refer to the following common issues and solutions:

Problem Possible Cause / Solution
Alarm chirps intermittently (once every 30-60 seconds) This indicates a low battery warning. Press the Test/Silence button to activate the Sleep Easy function for 8 hours. Replace the alarm unit as soon as possible, as the battery is sealed and not replaceable.
Alarm sounds without visible smoke This may be a nuisance alarm caused by cooking fumes, steam, or dust. Press the Test/Silence button to silence it. If it persists, check the alarm's location and ensure it's not near sources of steam or excessive dust. Vacuum the alarm as per maintenance instructions.
Alarm does not sound during test Ensure the alarm is properly twisted onto its base plate. If it still doesn't sound, the unit may be faulty or at the end of its lifespan. Replace the alarm immediately.
Alarm sounds continuously This indicates the presence of smoke. Evacuate the premises immediately and call emergency services. Do not attempt to silence the alarm if there is a real fire.
