4. Setup and Assembly

4.1 Assembling the Metal Detector

  1. Attach the Search Coil: Secure the 9-inch X35 search coil to the lower stem using the provided non-metallic bolt and nut. Ensure it is firmly attached but allows for slight angle adjustment.
  2. Connect the Stem Sections: Assemble the telescopic S-shaped stem. The ORX features a patented XP LITE stem for easy adjustment and portability.
  3. Mount the Control Unit: Slide the ORX control unit onto the stem handle. Ensure it clicks securely into place.
  4. Connect Headphones: Plug the FX-02 wired backphone headphones into the designated audio jack on the control unit.

4.2 Charging the Device

The ORX control unit, search coil, and MI-6 pinpointer are equipped with rechargeable Lithium Polymer batteries.

  • Connect the provided USB charging cables to the respective charging ports on each component.
  • Plug the USB cables into a compatible USB power adapter (not included) or a computer USB port.
  • A full charge typically takes several hours. The battery indicator on the control unit will show charging status.
  • Expected battery life is approximately 20 hours for the control unit and search coil.

5. Operating Instructions

5.1 Powering On/Off

  • To power on the ORX control unit, press and hold the red power button () until the screen illuminates.
  • To power off, press and hold the red power button again until the unit shuts down.
  • Ensure the search coil is also powered on (it typically activates automatically when connected to the control unit).

5.2 Understanding the Display and Controls

    • Fine Gold: Designed for heavy mineralization, with good sensitivity to small and medium gold nuggets.
  • Coin, Jewelry, and Relic Modes:
    • Coin Fast: Suitable for coins, jewelry, and various targets, performing well on mineralized or contaminated ground.
    • Coin Deep: For coins and all target types, offering good performance on low mineralized, uncontaminated ground.
  • User Defined Programs: Two slots are available for custom program configurations.

To select a program, use the menu navigation buttons to cycle through the options and confirm your choice.

5.4 Frequency Adjustment

The ORX operates across 35 frequencies, ranging from 3.7 kHz to 27.7 kHz, allowing for optimal performance in various terrains and for different target types. Refer to the on-screen menu to adjust the operating frequency as needed for specific conditions.

5.5 Ground Balance

Ground balance is crucial for stable operation and accurate detection, especially in mineralized ground. The ORX offers automatic and manual ground balance options. Consult the on-screen menu for instructions on performing ground balance in your detecting area.

5.6 Using the MI-6 Pinpointer

The MI-6 pinpointer integrates seamlessly with the ORX detector, aiding in precise target recovery.
