1. Introduction

The M-Audio BX4BT 4.5" Studio Monitors are a pair of compact, bi-amplified tabletop speakers designed for recording, multimedia, and music production. Featuring Bluetooth connectivity, these speakers deliver 120 Watts of transparent sound through 4.5-inch Black Kevlar woofers and 1-inch natural silk dome tweeters. They offer versatile connectivity options and customizable EQ controls to enhance your listening experience.

2. What's in the Box

Ensure all the following items are present in your M-Audio BX4BT package:

3. Setup

3.1 Speaker Placement

Position the speakers on a stable, flat surface. The active speaker (with the power input and controls) can be placed on either the left or right side of your listening area. Use the 'Active Speaker Position' switch on the rear panel of the active speaker to select 'Left' or 'Right' according to its placement. This ensures proper stereo imaging.

3.2 Power Connection

Connect the included power cable to the power input on the rear of the active speaker, then plug it into a standard wall outlet (100-240V, 50/60Hz).

3.3 Connecting Speakers

Use the supplied 1/8" TS speaker interconnect cable to connect the 'Output to Passive Speaker' jack on the active speaker to the 'Input from Active Speaker' jack on the passive speaker.

3.4 Audio Input Connections

The BX4BT offers multiple ways to connect your audio sources:

  • RCA Inputs: Use the included 1/8" TRS to RCA cable to connect devices with RCA outputs (e.g., turntables, audio interfaces) to the unbalanced RCA inputs on the rear panel.
  • 1/4" Inputs: For professional audio equipment, use 1/4" TRS cables to connect to the balanced 1/4" inputs on the rear panel.
  • 1/8" AUX Input: Connect smartphones, tablets, or other portable devices using the included 1/8" to 1/8" TRS Aux cable to the AUX input on the front panel.

3.5 Bluetooth Pairing

To connect via Bluetooth:

  1. Ensure the BX4BT speakers are powered on.
  2. Activate Bluetooth on your audio device (smartphone, tablet, laptop).
  3. Press and hold the Bluetooth pairing button on the front panel of the active speaker until the Bluetooth LED flashes.
  4. Select 'M-Audio BX4BT' from the list of available Bluetooth devices on your audio device.
  5. Once paired, the Bluetooth LED will glow solid blue.

4. Operating

4.1 Power and Volume Control

The PWR/VOL knob on the front panel of the active speaker controls both power and volume. Turn the knob clockwise to power on the speakers and increase volume, and counter-clockwise to decrease volume and power off.

4.2 EQ Customization

Adjust the High-EQ and Low-EQ controls on the rear panel of the active speaker to fine-tune the sound to your preference or room acoustics. These controls allow you to boost or cut specific frequency ranges.

4.3 Headphone Output

Connect your headphones to the 1/8" headphone jack on the front panel for private listening. When headphones are connected, the speaker output will be muted.

4.4 MPC Beats Software

The BX4BT includes MPC Beats, a comprehensive beat-making software. Refer to the included user guide or the M-Audio website for instructions on downloading, installing, and utilizing MPC Beats to create, record, and share your music.

5. Maintenance

To ensure the longevity and optimal performance of your M-Audio BX4BT speakers:

  • Cleaning: Use a soft, dry cloth to clean the exterior of the speakers. Avoid using abrasive cleaners, waxes, or solvents.
  • Handling: Handle the speakers with care. Avoid touching the speaker cones (woofers and tweeters) directly, as they are delicate and can be easily damaged.
  • Protection: The speaker drivers are exposed. Exercise caution to prevent physical damage from impacts or foreign objects. When storing or transporting, ensure they are protected.
  • Environment: Keep the speakers away from direct sunlight, heat sources, and excessive moisture. Ensure proper ventilation around the speakers.

6. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your M-Audio BX4BT speakers, refer to the table below for common problems and solutions:
