1. Introduction

1.1 Product Overview

The FreedConn TCOM-SC is a Bluetooth motorcycle intercom system designed for clear and reliable communication between riders. It supports simultaneous two-person communication, music sharing, FM radio, and hands-free phone calls with Siri compatibility. The unit features an LCD screen for easy status monitoring and is built with an IP65 waterproof rating for use in various weather conditions.

1.2 Key Features

  • LCD Screen: Displays battery level and operating status, providing clear information at a glance.
  • Music Sharing & CVC Noise Reduction: Enables music sharing for two riders. CVC noise cancellation technology reduces engine and wind noise, ensuring clear audio communication.
  • Bluetooth 5.1 & Extended Battery Life: Equipped with Bluetooth 5.1 and a 400mAh battery, offering fast 2-hour charging, up to 11 hours of continuous talk time, and 300 hours of standby.
  • Long-Distance Communication: Achieves a maximum communication range of up to 1000 meters in open, obstacle-free environments. Rider-to-rider communication is effective up to 400-800 meters. Note: Actual range may vary based on weather, terrain, and obstacles.
  • IP65 Waterproof & Large Buttons: IP65 waterproof rating ensures protection against rain, offering convenience and safety. Large, tactile buttons allow for easy operation even while wearing gloves.

2. Setup

2.1 Installation on Helmet

The TCOM-SC unit can be easily mounted to most motorcycle helmets using the provided clip or adhesive mount. Ensure the unit is securely attached and the microphone and speakers are positioned correctly for optimal audio.

  1. Choose a suitable location on the side of your helmet for the intercom unit.
  2. Attach the mounting clip or adhesive pad to the helmet.
  3. Slide the TCOM-SC unit onto the clip or firmly press it onto the adhesive pad.
  4. Install the speakers inside the helmet's ear pockets, ensuring they are aligned with your ears.
  5. Position the microphone in front of your mouth, ensuring it is close enough for clear voice pickup but does not obstruct your vision.

2.2 Bluetooth Pairing

To use the intercom functions, you must pair the TCOM-SC with your mobile phone and/or other TCOM-SC units.

2.2.1 Pairing with a Mobile Phone

  1. Ensure the TCOM-SC unit is powered off.
  2. Press and hold the Power/Intercom button until the LED indicator flashes red and blue alternately, indicating pairing mode.
  3. On your mobile phone, enable Bluetooth and search for available devices.
  4. Select "FreedConn TCOM-SC" from the list. If prompted, enter "0000" as the PIN.
  5. Once paired, the LED indicator will flash blue slowly.

2.2.2 Pairing with Another TCOM-SC Unit (Intercom)

  1. Ensure both TCOM-SC units are powered off.
  2. On both units, press and hold the Power/Intercom button until the LED indicators flash red and blue alternately.
  3. Briefly press the Power/Intercom button on one of the units. The units will search for each other.
  4. Once paired, the LED indicators on both units will flash blue slowly, and you will hear a confirmation tone.

3. Operating Instructions

3.1 Basic Functions

  • Power On: Press and hold the Power/Intercom button for approximately 3 seconds.
  • Power Off: Press and hold the Power/Intercom button for approximately 5 seconds.
  • Volume Adjustment: Rotate the jog dial forward to increase volume, backward to decrease volume.

3.2 Intercom Communication

Once two TCOM-SC units are paired, you can initiate intercom communication.

  • Start Intercom: Briefly press the Power/Intercom button.
  • End Intercom: Briefly press the Power/Intercom button again.

3.3 Music Playback and Sharing

Connect your TCOM-SC to a Bluetooth-enabled music device to enjoy music. Music can also be shared with a paired intercom unit.

  • Play/Pause Music: Briefly press the Multi-function button.
  • Next Track: Rotate the jog dial forward and hold for 2 seconds.
  • Previous Track: Rotate the jog dial backward and hold for 2 seconds.
  • Music Sharing: While music is playing, briefly press the Multi-function button twice to initiate music sharing with a paired intercom unit.

3.4 Phone Calls and Voice Assistant

When paired with your mobile phone, the TCOM-SC allows for hands-free calling and voice assistant activation.

  • Answer Call: Briefly press the Phone button.
  • End Call: Briefly press the Phone button.
  • Reject Call: Press and hold the Phone button for 2 seconds.
  • Redial Last Number: Briefly press the Phone button twice.
  • Activate Voice Assistant (Siri/Google Assistant): Press and hold the Phone button for 2 seconds (after pairing with phone).

3.5 FM Radio

The TCOM-SC includes an integrated FM radio function.

  • Turn On/Off FM Radio: Press and hold the Multi-function button for 2 seconds.
  • Scan Stations: Briefly press the Multi-function button to scan for the next available station.

4. Maintenance

4.1 Charging

To ensure optimal performance and battery longevity, charge the TCOM-SC unit regularly.

  • Connect the charging cable to the unit's charging port and a USB power source.
  • The LED indicator will show charging status (e.g., red for charging, blue for fully charged).
  • A full charge typically takes approximately 2 hours.

4.2 Waterproofing

The TCOM-SC has an IP65 waterproof rating, providing protection against dust and water splashes. This means it can withstand light to moderate rain.

  • While the device is water-resistant, avoid submerging it in water or exposing it to extreme weather conditions like heavy downpours for extended periods.
  • Ensure all ports are securely closed when not in use to maintain water resistance.

5. Troubleshooting

  • No Power: Ensure the unit is fully charged. Connect to a power source and check the charging indicator.
  • Cannot Pair: Ensure both devices are in pairing mode and within range. Try restarting both devices and repeating the pairing process.
  • No Sound/Low Volume: Check volume levels on both the intercom and the connected device. Ensure speakers are correctly positioned inside the helmet.
  • Intercom Disconnects: Ensure units are within effective communication range (400-800m for bike-to-bike). Obstacles and terrain can affect range.
  • Poor Audio Quality/Static: Move away from sources of electromagnetic interference. Ensure microphone is positioned correctly and not blocked. CVC noise reduction helps, but extreme wind or engine noise can still affect clarity.
