Setup and Installation
Disclaimer: Professional installation is recommended. Improper installation can lead to vehicle damage or personal injury. Always consult a qualified mechanic if you are unsure about any step. Ensure the vehicle is safely supported on jack stands on a level surface before beginning work.
Required Tools and Materials:
- Vehicle jack and jack stands
- Wheel chocks
- Socket wrench set
- Torque wrench
- Pry bar (optional, for leverage)
- Penetrating oil
- Thread locker (medium strength)
General Installation Steps:
- Prepare the Vehicle: Park the vehicle on a level surface, engage the parking brake, and chock the rear wheels (when working on the front) or front wheels (when working on the rear). Loosen the lug nuts on the wheels to be removed.
- Lift and Secure: Jack up the vehicle and place it securely on jack stands. Remove the wheels.
- Access Struts: Locate the top mounting bolts of the strut assembly. Depending on the vehicle model, this may require removing plastic covers or other components in the engine bay or trunk area.
- Remove Strut Top Bolts: Carefully remove the nuts securing the top of the strut to the vehicle's chassis. Do not remove the large center nut on the strut shaft.
- Install Strut Spacer: Position the appropriate strut spacer (front or rear) on top of the strut tower. The spacers are designed to bolt directly on top of the existing struts without requiring strut disassembly or a spring compressor. Align the holes on the spacer with the strut tower studs.
- Secure Spacer: Use the provided hardened studs and nuts to secure the spacer to the strut tower. Apply thread locker to the studs before installing nuts and torque to vehicle manufacturer specifications.
- Reattach Strut Assembly: Lower the strut assembly and align the strut's original mounting holes with the new studs on the bottom of the spacer. Use the provided bolts, washers, and nuts to secure the strut to the spacer. Apply thread locker and torque to specifications.
- Repeat for Other Wheels: Repeat the process for the remaining wheels.
- Final Assembly: Reinstall the wheels, lower the vehicle, and torque the lug nuts to manufacturer specifications.
- Alignment: After installation, a professional wheel alignment is highly recommended to ensure proper vehicle handling and tire wear.

Operation
The maXpeedingrods 3-inch lift kit functions by increasing the distance between the vehicle's chassis and the ground. This modification provides several operational benefits:
- Increased Ground Clearance: Enhances the vehicle's ability to navigate uneven terrain and obstacles without scraping the undercarriage.
- Accommodates Larger Tires: Allows for the installation of larger diameter tires, which can further improve off-road capability and vehicle aesthetics.
- Improved Approach/Departure Angles: Can positively affect the vehicle's approach, departure, and breakover angles, which are crucial for off-road performance.
After installation, it is important to drive cautiously and become accustomed to the altered vehicle dynamics, especially regarding the higher center of gravity.
Maintenance
Regular inspection and maintenance are crucial for the longevity and safe operation of your lift kit and associated suspension components:
- Periodic Bolt Check: Regularly inspect all bolts and nuts associated with the lift kit and suspension for tightness. Re-torque to manufacturer specifications if necessary, especially after the first 500 miles of driving.
- Component Inspection: Visually inspect the strut spacers for any signs of damage, corrosion, or wear. Check surrounding suspension components (struts, control arms, bushings) for unusual wear or looseness.
- Cleanliness: Keep the suspension components clean, especially after off-road driving, to prevent accumulation of dirt and debris that could accelerate wear.
Troubleshooting
This section addresses common concerns that may arise after installing a lift kit:
- Issue: Vehicle does not achieve expected lift height.
Solution: The actual lift height achieved from a strut spacer is not always a 1:1 ratio with the spacer's thickness due to suspension geometry. Ensure all components are correctly installed and torqued. If the issue persists, consult a professional.
- Issue: Noises (clunking, squeaking) from suspension after installation.
Solution: Re-check all fasteners for proper torque. Ensure no components are binding or rubbing. Verify that all original components were reinstalled correctly. Loose or improperly torqued hardware is a common cause of noise.
- Issue: Poor handling or steering feel.
Solution: A professional wheel alignment is critical after installing any lift kit. Changes in suspension geometry can significantly affect handling. Also, consider if additional components like trailing arm spacers or camber bolts are necessary for your specific vehicle and desired alignment specifications.
- Issue: Hardware failure (e.g., bolts breaking).
Solution: Ensure proper torque specifications are followed during installation. Over-tightening can lead to bolt failure. If a bolt breaks, replace it with a high-grade equivalent (e.g., Grade 8) to ensure structural integrity and safety. Contact customer support for replacement hardware if needed.
