2. Setup and Installation

Installation of these handlebars requires careful attention to detail, especially concerning wiring. Professional installation is recommended.

Package Contents

  • 12-inch Chrome Pre-wired Meathook Ape Handlebars.
  • Pre-wired Handlebar Switch Wiring (CAN-BUS Harnesses).
  • Pre-wired Throttle By Wire (TBW) wire.

Installation Steps

  1. Preparation: Ensure the motorcycle is stable and the battery is disconnected. Remove existing handlebars and controls.
  2. Wiring the Throttle By Wire (TBW):
    • The pre-installed TBW wire is routed through the handlebar. Due to limited internal space, it is necessary to cut your existing OEM TBW wire and the pre-wired TBW wire, then connect them.
    • Alternatively, you can pull out the pre-wired TBW wire and re-route your OEM TBW wire, but this process can be challenging.
    • Use the provided heat-shrink splices for secure connections if cutting and splicing. Leave approximately 3-4 inches of wire when shortening the OEM wire.
  3. CAN-BUS Wiring: The CAN-BUS switch wires are pre-wired for direct connection.
  4. Mounting Handlebars: Install the new handlebars onto the motorcycle. Ensure all connections are secure and properly routed.
  5. Control Installation: Reinstall all controls, ensuring proper function and clearance.
  6. Cable Routing: For 12-inch bars, clutch and brake lines typically do not require extension; repositioning within the fairing is usually sufficient.
  7. Riser Bushings: Consider replacing OEM rubber riser bushings with quality aftermarket solid ones to minimize movement, especially with taller handlebars.
  8. Final Checks: Reconnect the battery. Test all controls, including throttle, brakes, clutch, and electrical switches, before riding.
