Smartphone Compatibility and Pairing

Echo Frames require the Alexa app on your smartphone for full functionality. They are compatible with Android 9.0 or greater and iOS 14 or greater.

  1. Download and install the Amazon Alexa app on your smartphone.
  2. Open the Alexa app and follow the on-screen instructions to set up your Echo Frames.
  3. Ensure Bluetooth is enabled on your smartphone. Echo Frames use Bluetooth 5.2 for multi-point pairing.
  4. The app will guide you through the pairing process. Once paired, your Echo Frames will connect automatically when in range.

Note: Echo Frames utilize your smartphone's data plan or Wi-Fi for connectivity. Carrier charges may apply.

Operating Your Echo Frames

Alexa Voice Control

Your Echo Frames are designed for hands-free interaction with Alexa. Simply say "Alexa" followed by your command.

  • Music & Content: Ask Alexa to play music, podcasts, or Audible books from your favorite streaming apps.
  • Smart Home Control: Control compatible smart home devices. For example, "Alexa, turn off the living room lights" or "Alexa, set the thermostat to 72 degrees."
  • Information & Assistance: Get weather updates, set reminders, ask questions, and more.

Open-Ear Audio and Calling

The Echo Frames feature open-ear audio, directing sound to your ears without covering them, allowing you to remain aware of your surroundings. Auto Volume adjusts audio levels based on ambient noise.

For calls, the integrated microphones (4 beamforming microphones) ensure clear communication. You can make and receive calls hands-free. With Top Contact enabled, you can call a designated VIP contact with a single press and hold of a button.

Privacy Features

Echo Frames are designed with privacy in mind:

  • Wake Word Technology: Microphones are designed to respond only to the voice of the person wearing the frames.
  • Microphone Mute: Double-press the action button on the frames to mute the microphones.
  • Streaming Indicators: LED feedback indicates when Alexa is streaming or processing audio.
  • Voice Recordings: You can view and delete your voice recordings through the Alexa app.

Maintenance

Cleaning and Care

To maintain your Echo Frames, use the provided cleaning cloth to gently wipe the lenses and frame. Avoid harsh chemicals or abrasive materials.

Material Care: The front frames are made from Italian acetate and premium metal. The temple tips are soft-touch silicone with a titanium core. Avoid leaving the frames in extreme heat (e.g., a hot car) or cold, as this can damage the materials and internal components. The operating temperature range is 0–35°C (32–95°F).

Water Resistance

Echo Frames are IPX4 rated, meaning they are splash-resistant for water and sweat. They are not designed for submersion in water. Avoid exposing them to pressurized water or high-velocity water.

Lens Information

Your Echo Frames come with blue light filtering lenses with an anti-reflective coating, designed to reduce glare and improve visual comfort from digital screens. These frames are designed to be easily fitted with prescription lenses by an eye care provider.

Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your Echo Frames, try the following steps:

  • Not Charging: Ensure the frames are correctly seated on the charging stand and the charging indicator light is on. Sometimes, slight adjustments are needed to make proper contact. Verify the USB cable and power adapter are functioning.
  • Connectivity Issues:
    • Check that Bluetooth is enabled on your smartphone and the Echo Frames are within range.
    • Restart your smartphone and the Echo Frames (by placing them on the charger and then removing them).
    • If issues persist, try "forgetting" the device in your phone's Bluetooth settings and re-pairing through the Alexa app.
  • Alexa Not Responding:
    • Ensure the microphones are not muted (double-press the action button to toggle mute).
    • Check your internet connection on your smartphone.
    • Verify the Alexa app is open and running in the background.
  • Audio Quality: Ensure the frames are positioned correctly on your face. Adjust the volume using the controls on the frames or through the Alexa app.
