5. Operating Modes

The TIMBOOTECH Q3 supports various operating modes to suit your display needs.

5.1. Mirror Mode

In Mirror Mode, the content displayed on your source device (e.g., laptop screen) is duplicated onto the larger display (TV, monitor, projector). This is ideal for presentations or sharing content directly.

5.2. Extend Mode

Extend Mode allows you to expand your desktop workspace across two screens, displaying different content on your source device and the connected display. This enhances productivity for multitasking.

5.3. Smartphone/Tablet Casting

The receiver (RX) unit can also function as a standalone wireless display dongle for smartphones and tablets, supporting Miracast (Android), Airplay (iOS), and DLNA protocols.

  1. Ensure the RX unit is powered on and connected to your display.
  2. On your smartphone or tablet, connect to the RX unit's Wi-Fi hotspot (SSID and password will be displayed on the screen).
  3. Activate the screen mirroring function on your mobile device (e.g., Smart View on Android, Airplay Mirroring on iOS).
  4. Select the RX unit from the list of available devices to begin casting.

Image: This diagram demonstrates the system's ability to pair one receiver (RX) with up to eight transmitters (TXs), allowing multiple users to share content to a single display in a meeting or presentation scenario.

6. Multiple Transmitters (Optional)

The TIMBOOTECH Q3 system allows one receiver (RX) to pair with up to 8 transmitters (TXs). This feature is useful for environments where multiple sources need to share a single display, such as conference rooms.

  1. Connect and power on all desired TX units to their respective source devices.
  2. Follow the pairing instructions (Section 4.3) for each additional TX unit to pair it with the RX.
  3. To switch between active TX units, simply press the function button on the desired TX unit.

7. Troubleshooting

  • No Signal or Black Screen:
    • Ensure both TX and RX units are properly powered and their indicator lights are solid.
    • Verify that the display device is set to the correct HDMI input source.
    • Check all HDMI and USB-C cable connections for looseness.
    • Attempt to re-pair the TX and RX units as described in Section 4.3.
  • Intermittent Signal or Lag:
    • Reduce the distance between the TX and RX units. The maximum range is 165ft/50m in line of sight, but obstacles (walls, furniture) can reduce this.
    • Minimize physical obstructions between the units.
    • Ensure both units are receiving adequate power (5V/2A). Try using a dedicated wall adapter if powering from a device's USB port.
    • Avoid placing units near other wireless devices that may cause interference (e.g., Wi-Fi routers, microwaves).
  • No Audio:
    • Check the audio settings on your source device and ensure the volume is not muted.
    • Verify the audio output settings on your display device.
  • Unable to Cast from Smartphone/Tablet:
    • Ensure your mobile device is connected to the RX unit's Wi-Fi hotspot.
    • Confirm that your mobile device supports Miracast, Airplay, or DLNA.
    • Some streaming apps (e.g., Netflix, Hulu) may have HDCP protection that prevents screen mirroring from mobile devices.
