1. Water Reservoir Setup

Locate the water reservoir at the back of the machine. Remove any red plugs or tape from the bottom of the reservoir. Fill the reservoir with fresh, cold water up to the MAX line. Slide the reservoir securely back into its position on the machine.

2. Milk Reservoir Setup

The milk reservoir is located on the side of the machine. Remove any protective tape. Fill the reservoir with your desired milk (whole, 2%, skim, or almond milk) up to the MAX line. Ensure the frothing tube is properly connected. Slide the milk reservoir into its designated slot on the machine until it clicks securely into place.

4. Power On and Priming

Plug the machine into a grounded electrical outlet. Turn on the power switch, usually located on the side or back of the unit. The status bar on the control panel will illuminate and progress from left to right, indicating the machine is heating up. Wait until the status bar is fully illuminated and the checkmark appears, and all beverage buttons are lit, indicating the machine is ready for use.

For first-time use or after extended periods of inactivity, it is recommended to prime the pump. Place a large cup under the portafilter. Select the 'Espresso' button (manual or auto single shot) without any coffee grounds in the portafilter. Allow hot water to run through the system for about 30 seconds, then press the button again to stop. Repeat this process for the milk frother by selecting the 'Froth' button.

Operating Instructions

Ensure the machine is set up and primed as described in the Setup section.

1. Preparing Coffee Grounds or ESE Pods

  • For Ground Coffee: Use a fine grind espresso coffee. Fill the chosen filter basket (single or double) with ground coffee. Use the measuring scoop/tamper to level and tamp the coffee firmly, ensuring the coffee is just below the rim of the basket.
  • For ESE Pods: Place one ESE pod into the single shot filter basket.

2. Attaching the Portafilter

Insert the portafilter into the brew head of the machine. Turn it firmly to the right until it locks into place. Ensure it is tightly secured to prevent leaks during brewing.

3. Brewing Espresso

Place your espresso cup(s) on the drip tray directly under the portafilter spouts.

  • Automatic Espresso: Press the 'Espresso' button once for a single shot or twice for a double shot. The machine will automatically brew and stop.
  • Manual Espresso: Press the 'Manual Espresso' button to start brewing. Press it again to stop brewing when your desired volume is reached.

4. Preparing Lattes and Cappuccinos

Ensure the milk reservoir is filled and attached. Adjust the froth level knob on the milk reservoir: turn towards '-' for less froth (more steamed milk, ideal for lattes) or towards '+' for more froth (ideal for cappuccinos).

  • Automatic Latte/Cappuccino: Place your cup under both the portafilter and the milk frother spout. Press the 'Latte' or 'Cappuccino' button once for a small serving or twice for a large serving. The machine will automatically froth milk, brew espresso, and stop.
  • Manual Frothing: Place a cup under the milk frother spout. Press the 'Froth' button to start frothing. Press it again to stop when desired froth is achieved.

Cleaning & Maintenance

Regular cleaning ensures the longevity and optimal performance of your Mr. Coffee One-Touch CoffeeHouse.

1. Milk System Cleaning

After each use of the milk frother, perform a quick clean:

  • Remove the milk reservoir and store any remaining milk in the refrigerator.
  • Place an empty cup under the milk frother spout.
  • Turn the froth level knob to the 'Clean' position.
  • Press the 'Clean' button. The machine will dispense hot steam and water to clear the milk lines. Press the 'Clean' button again to stop.
  • Periodically, disassemble the milk frother components (reservoir, frothing tube) and wash them thoroughly with warm, soapy water.

2. Portafilter and Filter Basket Cleaning

  • After brewing, carefully remove the portafilter by turning it to the left.
  • Empty the used coffee grounds (puck) from the filter basket.
  • Rinse the portafilter and filter basket under running water. For thorough cleaning, the filter basket can be removed from the portafilter.
  • Ensure all components are dry before reassembling.

3. Drip Tray Cleaning

The drip tray collects excess liquids and should be emptied and cleaned regularly. A red indicator will pop up when the tray is full.

  • Slide out the drip tray from the front of the machine.
  • Separate the metal grate from the plastic tray.
  • Empty and wash both parts with warm, soapy water.
  • Dry thoroughly and reassemble.

4. Descaling

Over time, mineral deposits can build up inside the machine, affecting performance. Refer to the full user manual for detailed descaling instructions, typically recommended every few months depending on water hardness and usage.

Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your Mr. Coffee One-Touch CoffeeHouse, try the following common troubleshooting steps:

  • No Power: Ensure the machine is properly plugged into a working outlet and the power switch is in the 'On' position.
  • No Water Dispensing: Check if the water reservoir is filled and correctly seated. Ensure the red plug at the bottom of the reservoir has been removed.
  • No Milk Frothing: Verify the milk reservoir is filled and properly attached. Ensure the frothing tube is clean and not clogged. Perform a milk system clean cycle.
  • Weak Espresso: Use fresh, finely ground espresso coffee. Ensure the coffee is tamped firmly in the filter basket.
  • Leaking from Portafilter: Ensure the portafilter is securely locked into the brew head. Check that the filter basket is clean and free of grounds around the rim.
