3.3 Checking Engine Light (MIL)

The Malfunction Indicator Light (MIL), commonly known as the Check Engine Light, illuminates when the vehicle's onboard diagnostic system detects a problem. The THINKOBD 100 can help you understand and manage this light:

  • Read Codes: Use this function to identify why the MIL is on. The device will display the specific DTCs.
  • Erase Codes: After addressing the underlying issue, use this function to clear the DTCs and turn off the MIL. Note: Clearing codes without fixing the problem will likely result in the MIL reappearing.

3.4 DTC Lookup

The DTC Lookup function allows you to quickly find detailed descriptions of Diagnostic Trouble Codes without needing to search online. Simply input the code displayed on the screen, and the device will provide its meaning.

3.5 I/M Readiness (Smog Check)

I/M Readiness indicates whether the various emission-related systems on the vehicle are operating correctly and are ready for inspection and maintenance testing (smog check). A 'Ready' status means all monitors have completed their diagnostic cycles. If a monitor is 'Not Ready', it may require further driving cycles.
