1. Product Overview

The Plugable UGA-HDMI-S is a versatile USB-C and USB 3.0 to HDMI adapter designed to connect an additional HDMI display to your computer. This adapter supports resolutions up to 2560x1440 (1440p) at 60Hz, making it suitable for extending your desktop for multitasking or mirroring your primary display. It features a hybrid 2-in-1 cable, allowing connection to either a USB 3.0 (USB-A) port or a USB-C port, including USB4, Thunderbolt 4, and Thunderbolt 3.

2. Setup and Driver Installation

Before connecting the adapter, ensure your operating system is compatible. The UGA-HDMI-S is compatible with Windows 10/11, macOS 10.14+ (including M1/M2/M3/M4 systems), and ChromeOS 100+.

2.1. Windows Installation

For Windows 10/11 systems, the necessary Silicon Motion (SMI) drivers typically install automatically upon connecting the adapter to an active internet connection. 2.2. macOS Installation

For macOS systems, manual driver installation is required using the InstantView application. Follow these steps:

  1. Open your web browser and search for "siliconmotion downloads" or visit the official Silicon Motion website.
  2. Locate and download the macOS InstantView Application compatible with your macOS version (e.g., macOS 14 Sonoma, 13 Ventura, 12 Monterey, 11 Big Sur).
  3. Double-click the downloaded file (e.g., a .dmg file) to open the installer.
  4. Drag the "macOS InstantView" app icon to your Applications folder.
  5. Navigate to your Launchpad or Applications folder, locate the "macOS InstantView" app, and double-click to launch it.
  6. If prompted, click "Open" to confirm you want to open an app downloaded from the internet.
  7. When prompted to grant access for screen recording, click "Open System Settings" (or "Open System Preferences" on older macOS versions).
  8. In the Privacy & Security settings, enable screen recording for the "macOS InstantView" application. You may need to enter your password and click "Modify Settings."
  9. Choose "Quit & Reopen" when prompted to apply the changes.
  10. Once the software is installed and configured, plug in your UGA-HDMI-S adapter to your Mac.
  11. If prompted, click "Allow" to connect the USB accessory to your Mac.

3. Operating Instructions

After successful installation, the adapter will automatically detect and configure your connected HDMI monitor. You can then adjust display settings through your operating system.

3.1. Display Modes

  • Extend Mode: Expands your desktop across multiple screens, allowing you to have different applications open on each display.
  • Mirror Mode: Duplicates your primary display onto the external monitor.

To change display modes:

  • Windows: Right-click on the desktop, select "Display settings," and configure your monitors.
  • macOS: Go to System Settings (or System Preferences) > Displays to arrange and configure your monitors.

3.2. Multi-Monitor Setups

The UGA-HDMI-S adapter supports multi-monitor configurations:

5. Troubleshooting

  • Display Not Detected:

  • Adapter is Warm to the Touch:
    • It is normal for the adapter to become slightly warm during operation. If it feels excessively hot, disconnect it and contact support.
