5. Setup Guide
5.1. Charging the Devices
Both the receiver and transmitter are powered by internal lithium batteries. Before first use, ensure both units are fully charged.
- Connect the provided USB charging cable to the charging port on both the receiver and the transmitter.
- Plug the other end of the USB cable into a standard USB power adapter (e.g., phone charger, computer USB port).
- The charging indicator light will illuminate during charging and turn off (or change color) when fully charged.
- A full charge typically provides over 6 hours of continuous operation.
5.2. Attaching the Microphone
Carefully attach the microphone clip to your instrument. For saxophones, typically attach it to the bell or a suitable part of the instrument where the microphone can be positioned close to the sound source without obstructing play.
- Open the clip and secure it firmly to a stable part of the instrument.
- Adjust the flexible gooseneck to position the microphone capsule approximately 1-3 inches from the instrument's sound hole or bell, pointing towards the sound source.
- Ensure the microphone is securely attached and will not interfere with your performance.
5.3. Connecting the Receiver
The receiver plugs directly into your audio input device.
- Locate a 6.35mm (1/4 inch) input jack on your mixer, amplifier, or active speaker.
- Insert the receiver's 6.35mm plug firmly into the input jack.
- Ensure the input channel on your audio device is set to an appropriate level and is not muted.
5.4. Powering On and Pairing (IR Sync)
To establish a wireless connection, the transmitter and receiver must be powered on and paired.
- Power On Receiver: Press and hold the Power button on the receiver until the display illuminates.
- Power On Transmitter: Press and hold the Power button on the transmitter until its indicator light illuminates.
- Initiate IR Sync: With both units on, position the IR sensor of the transmitter close to the IR sensor of the receiver (within a few inches).
- Press the SYNC button on the receiver. The receiver will send the selected frequency to the transmitter via infrared.
- The display on both units should show the same channel number, indicating successful pairing. The RF indicator on the receiver should light up, confirming a stable wireless connection.
- If interference occurs, you can change the channel on the receiver and repeat the IR sync process to find a clear frequency. The system offers 16 selectable frequencies.
6. Operating Instructions
6.1. Adjusting Audio Levels
Once connected and paired, adjust the input gain on your mixer or amplifier. Start with the gain low and gradually increase it until you achieve a clear, strong signal without distortion. Avoid setting the gain too high, which can lead to clipping and poor sound quality.
6.2. Performance Considerations
- Line-of-Sight: For optimal performance, maintain a clear line-of-sight between the transmitter and receiver. Obstacles like walls or large metal objects can reduce the operating range.
- Operating Range: The system has an operating range of up to 40 meters (approximately 130 feet) in ideal conditions.
- Battery Monitoring: Pay attention to the battery indicators on both units. Recharge them when the battery level is low to avoid interruptions during a performance.
- Multiple Systems: If using multiple ST-5 systems simultaneously, ensure each pair is set to a different frequency to prevent interference. The digital ID code helps in this regard.
7. Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
