Setup: Setting Your Combination

Your HMF Vintage 3-Digit Combination Padlock comes preset to 0-0-0. Follow these steps to set your personal combination:

  1. Ensure the padlock is set to the current combination (factory default is 0-0-0).
  2. Pull up the shackle to open the lock.
  3. Rotate the shackle 90 degrees (a quarter turn) counter-clockwise from the open position.
  4. Press the shackle down firmly into the lock body, ensuring it stays depressed.
  5. While holding the shackle down, set your desired 3-digit combination by rotating the dials. Choose a memorable number.
  6. Release the shackle. It should spring back up slightly.
  7. Rotate the shackle back to its original open position (another 90 degrees clockwise).
  8. Scramble the dials to lock the padlock. Your new combination is now set.

Note: It is highly recommended to write down your new combination and store it in a safe place. If you forget your combination, there is no master key or override function to open the lock.

Maintenance

The HMF Vintage 3-Digit Combination Padlock requires minimal maintenance. To ensure its longevity and smooth operation:

  • Keep the padlock clean and free from dust and debris. Wipe with a soft, dry cloth.
  • Avoid exposing the padlock to extreme temperatures or harsh chemicals, which may damage the finish or internal mechanism.
  • If the dials become stiff, a small amount of graphite lubricant (not oil) can be applied to the moving parts.

Troubleshooting

  • Padlock does not open with the correct combination:
    • Ensure each digit is precisely aligned with the indicator line.
    • Verify that you are using the correct combination. If you recently changed it, try the old combination as well, in case the change was not fully registered.
    • Gently wiggle the shackle while pulling up to see if it releases.
  • Dials are stiff or hard to turn:
    • Clean any visible dirt or grime from around the dials.
    • Apply a small amount of graphite powder lubricant into the gaps around the dials. Avoid using oil-based lubricants as they can attract dust.
  • Forgotten Combination:

Unfortunately, if you have forgotten your combination and do not have it written down, there is no way to reset or recover the combination without knowing it. The padlock is designed for security and does not have a master key or backdoor. You may need to replace the padlock.
