2. Safety Information

WARNING: This detector will NOT operate without power. Ensure continuous 12V DC power supply for proper function.

  • This device is intended for the detection of propane gas only. It is not designed to detect carbon monoxide, smoke, or other gases.
  • Do not paint the unit. Paint can clog the sensor openings and interfere with proper operation.
  • Regular testing is crucial to ensure the detector is functioning correctly. Refer to the 'Testing' section for instructions.
  • In case of an alarm, immediately ventilate the area, turn off propane supply, and investigate the source of the leak. Do not re-enter the area until the gas has dissipated and the leak is resolved.
  • The unit has a limited operational lifetime of approximately 6 years. Replace the unit after this period or if it malfunctions.

6. Installation

6.1 Choosing an Installation Location:

Propane gas is heavier than air and tends to settle at lower levels. Therefore, the detector should be mounted low to the floor.

  • Mount the detector 4 to 20 inches (10-50 cm) off the floor.
  • Avoid mounting near windows, doors, or vents where drafts could dilute gas concentrations.
  • Do not mount near cooking appliances, heating vents, or in direct sunlight, as extreme temperatures can affect sensor performance.
  • Ensure the location is free from obstructions that could block the alarm sound or digital display.

6.2 Wiring Instructions:

  1. Ensure all power to the RV's 12V DC system is turned off before beginning installation.
  2. Connect the red wire from the detector to a fused 12V DC positive (+) power source.
  3. Connect the black wire from the detector to a 12V DC negative (-) ground.
  4. Ensure all connections are secure and properly insulated.

6.3 Mounting the Detector:

  1. Once wiring is complete, use the provided mounting screws to secure the detector to the chosen wall location.
  2. Do not overtighten screws.

7. Operation

7.1 Initial Power-Up:

After installation and restoring 12V DC power, the detector will perform a self-test. The digital display will show a countdown, and the green power indicator will illuminate. The unit will then enter normal monitoring mode.

7.2 Normal Operation:

In normal operation, the green power indicator will be steadily lit. The digital display will show '0' or a low number, indicating no detectable propane gas. The unit continuously monitors the air for propane gas.

7.3 Alarm Condition:

If propane gas is detected at or above the 800 ppm threshold, the unit will activate an alarm:

  • The red alarm indicator will flash.
  • An 85 dB audible alarm will sound (Di-Di-Di).
  • The digital display will show the detected propane concentration in %LEL.

7.4 Responding to an Alarm:

  1. Remain Calm: Do not panic.
  2. Ventilate: Open all windows and doors to ventilate the RV.
  3. Turn Off Propane: Immediately turn off the main propane supply valve.
  4. Evacuate: If the alarm persists or the gas concentration remains high, evacuate all occupants from the RV.
  5. Investigate: Once the area is clear and ventilated, carefully investigate the source of the leak. Do not use open flames or electrical switches during investigation.
  6. Reset/Mute: Press the 'Test/Mute' button to silence the alarm. The unit will continue to monitor. If the gas concentration drops below the threshold, the alarm will cease.

8. Testing

It is recommended to test the alarm weekly to ensure proper function.

  1. Press and hold the 'Test/Mute' button for approximately 3 seconds.
  2. The alarm will sound, and the red alarm indicator will flash.
  3. Release the button. The alarm should stop, and the unit will return to normal monitoring mode.
  4. If the alarm does not sound during the test, refer to the 'Troubleshooting' section.

9. Maintenance

  • Cleaning: Gently wipe the exterior of the detector with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners. Do not spray cleaning agents directly onto the unit.
  • Sensor Care: Do not obstruct the sensor openings. Avoid painting over the unit.
  • Replacement: The sensor has a limited lifespan. Replace the unit after 6 years of powered operation to ensure continued accuracy and reliability.
