5. Setup

Follow these steps to set up your SUGON A9 245 Soldering Station:

  1. Connect the Handle: Connect the soldering handle cable to the handle socket on the host machine. Ensure it is securely connected to prevent damage to the control circuit board.
  2. Insert Heating Core: Insert the heating core (soldering iron tip) into the handle.
  3. Place Handle: Place the soldering handle into the handle rack.
  4. Connect Power: Connect the power supply cord to the station and then to a universal 110V/220V AC power outlet.
  5. Power On: Turn on the power switch. The display window will show the standby temperature, indicating the station is ready for operation.

6. Operating Instructions

6.1 Temperature Adjustment

  • Increasing Temperature: Press the UP (▲) button once to increase the set temperature by 1°C/°F. Hold the button to rapidly increase the temperature. The station will reach the target temperature quickly.
  • Decreasing Temperature: Press the DOWN (▼) button once to decrease the set temperature by 1°C/°F. Hold the button to rapidly decrease the temperature.

6.2 Temperature Memory Storage (CH1, CH2, CH3)

The station allows you to store and recall three different temperature settings:

  • To Store: Set your desired temperature. Press and hold the corresponding channel button (CH1, CH2, or CH3) for more than 1 second. The temperature will be saved to that channel.
  • To Recall: Press the desired channel button (CH1, CH2, or CH3) briefly (less than 1 second) to recall the stored temperature.

6.3 Celsius/Fahrenheit Conversion

To switch between Celsius (°C) and Fahrenheit (°F) display modes:

  • Press the SET button while the power is on. The unit will toggle between °C and °F.

6.4 Key Lock Function

To prevent accidental temperature changes, you can lock the control buttons:

  • Press and hold the CH1 key while the station is off. Then, turn the unit on. The display will show "LOA on" to indicate the key lock is enabled.
  • To disable the key lock, repeat the same procedure. The display will show "LOA off".

6.5 Buzzer Settings

You can enable or disable the buzzer sound:

  • Press and hold the CH2 key while the station is off. Then, turn the unit on. The display will show a speaker icon with a line through it (disabled) or without a line (enabled).

6.6 Adjustable Standby Temperature Settings

The station offers four preset standby temperatures:

  • While the station is off, press and hold the CH3 key. Then, turn the unit on to enter the standby temperature setting interface.
  • The available standby temperatures are 0°C/0°F, 150°C/302°F, 180°C/356°F, and 200°C/392°F.
  • Briefly press CH3 to cycle through and select your desired standby temperature.

6.7 Temperature Calibration

If the temperature reading is inaccurate, you can calibrate the station:

  • Press and hold the SET key. The machine enters the temperature calibration mode.
  • Use the UP (▲) and DOWN (▼) buttons to adjust the displayed temperature to match an external temperature measurement (e.g., with a thermocouple).
  • Press SET again to save the calibration and exit the mode.

6.8 Soldering Iron Tip Replacement

The quick-change holder allows for easy tip replacement:

  1. Insert the soldering iron tip into the holder.
  2. Snap the soldering iron tip onto the holder and pull out to remove.
  3. Align the handle with the soldering iron tip to be replaced.
  4. Slowly pull the soldering iron tip out of the holder. If an "S-E" code appears, it indicates improper use; re-insert and try again.
  5. Insert the new soldering iron tip firmly into the small hole next to it. The "S-E" code should disappear, and the unit can be used normally.
  6. Soldering head replacement is complete.

7. Maintenance

Proper maintenance ensures the longevity and optimal performance of your soldering station:

  • Tip Cleaning: Regularly clean the soldering iron tip using the provided copper wire cleaning ball or the high-temperature cleaning sponge. This removes oxidation and solder residue, ensuring efficient heat transfer.
  • Automatic Hibernation: Utilize the automatic hibernation feature by placing the iron in its holder when not in use. This significantly extends the lifespan of the heating core.
  • General Cleaning: Keep the station and handle clean and free of dust and debris. Use a soft, dry cloth for cleaning. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
  • Storage: When not in use for extended periods, store the soldering station in a dry, dust-free environment.

8. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your SUGON A9 245 Soldering Station, refer to the following common problems and solutions:
