1. Introduction
The Versonel Nightwatcher VSL90 is an advanced outdoor LED floodlight designed for security and deterrence. It features a patented robotic motion sensor that tracks movement across a wide detection zone, illuminating and following any detected activity. This manual provides essential information for the safe and effective installation, operation, and maintenance of your Nightwatcher VSL90.
2. Safety Information
Please read all instructions carefully before installation and use. Failure to follow these instructions may result in electric shock, fire, or other hazards.
- Electrical Safety: This unit requires hardwiring to a 100-240V electrical supply. Installation should be performed by a qualified electrician or a person with adequate knowledge of electrical wiring to prevent electric shock.
- Power Disconnection: Always disconnect power at the circuit breaker before installing, servicing, or cleaning the fixture.
- Mounting: Ensure the mounting surface is structurally sound and can support the weight of the fixture.
- Outdoor Use: The VSL90 is weatherproof (IP65 rated) for outdoor use. Ensure all connections are sealed properly to maintain water resistance.
- Heat: The LED light source can become hot during operation. Do not touch the light fixture immediately after it has been on.
3. Package Contents
Verify that all components are present before beginning installation:

4. Product Overview
The Versonel Nightwatcher VSL90 integrates a powerful LED floodlight with a sophisticated motion detection and tracking system.

Figure 4.2: Side view of the VSL90, illustrating the adjustable light head and the integrated control panel on the side.
The unit features a 1700 Lumen LED light source and three integrated Passive Infrared (PIR) sensor zones. These sensors detect movement up to 39.37 feet (12 meters) across a 210-degree horizontal detection zone. Upon detection, the light automatically rotates to follow the movement, illuminating the area and creating the impression of being watched.

5. Setup and Installation
The VSL90 is designed for easy outdoor installation, replacing an existing floodlight fixture or adding to any location with electrical wiring. This unit must be hardwired.
5.1. Pre-Installation Steps
- Disconnect Power: Turn off power to the installation area at the circuit breaker.
- Prepare Junction Box: Ensure you have a suitable 4-inch diameter electrical junction box (not included) for mounting.
- Unpack: Carefully remove all components from the packaging.
5.2. Mounting Instructions

Figure 5.1: Exploded view of the VSL90 installation components and wiring connections.
- Attach Universal Mounting Bracket (E): Secure the universal mounting bracket to your electrical junction box using the provided junction box mounting screws (D). Ensure the bracket is oriented correctly.
- Install EVA Gasket (F): Place the EVA gasket over the universal mounting bracket. This helps seal the fixture against moisture.
- Wire Connections (G): Connect the household wiring to the light fixture wiring using the provided wire nuts (G). Typically, this involves connecting live to live, neutral to neutral, and ground to ground. Refer to local electrical codes.
- Mount Light Fixture (A): Align the light fixture with the mounting bracket and secure it using the light fixture mounting screws (C).
- Attach Decorative Screw Covers (B): Place the decorative screw covers over the mounting screws for a finished appearance.
- Restore Power: Once installation is complete and all connections are secure, restore power at the circuit breaker.
6. Operating Instructions
The VSL90 features a control panel with four switches (SW1-SW4) to adjust its operation. The LEDs (1-4) indicate the current settings.

Figure 6.1: Detailed view of the VSL90's control panel, showing the four switches (SW1-SW4) and their corresponding functions.
6.1. Control Panel Functions
- SW1 (Sensor L/M/H): Adjusts the sensitivity of the motion sensor.
- L (Low): Reduced detection range.
- M (Medium): Standard detection range.
- H (High): Maximum detection range (up to 39.37 feet).
- SW2 (Light On/Off): Controls the light operation.
- On: Light will activate upon motion detection.
- Off: Light will remain off, but motion tracking may still occur if SW3 is On.
- SW3 (Rotation On/Off): Enables or disables the robotic tracking movement.
- On: The light head will rotate to follow detected motion.
- Off: The light will illuminate but remain stationary.
- SW4 (Walk Test): Activates a test mode for verifying sensor coverage.
- When activated, the light will turn on and track movement for a short period, allowing you to walk through the detection zone to confirm coverage.
6.2. Initial Setup and Testing
- After installation, set SW1 to 'M', SW2 to 'On', and SW3 to 'On'.
- Activate 'Walk Test' (SW4) and walk through the intended detection area to ensure the sensor covers the desired zones and the light tracks your movement.
- Adjust SW1 (Sensor Sensitivity) as needed to optimize detection range and minimize false triggers.
- Once satisfied with the coverage, deactivate 'Walk Test' (SW4). The unit will now operate in its normal mode.
7. Maintenance
Regular maintenance ensures optimal performance and longevity of your Nightwatcher VSL90.
- Cleaning: Periodically clean the lens of the LED light and the PIR sensor dome with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
- Inspection: Annually inspect the fixture for any signs of damage, loose wiring, or corrosion. Ensure all mounting screws are tight.
- Power Cycle: If the unit behaves erratically, try turning off the power at the circuit breaker for a few minutes and then restoring it. This can reset the system.
8. Troubleshooting
Refer to the following table for common issues and their solutions:
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Light does not turn on. | No power; SW2 is Off; Sensor sensitivity too low; Faulty wiring. | Check circuit breaker; Ensure SW2 is On; Adjust SW1 to 'M' or 'H'; Verify wiring connections. |
| Light does not track movement. | SW3 is Off; Obstruction in sensor view; Sensor malfunction. | Ensure SW3 is On; Clear any obstructions; Perform a 'Walk Test' (SW4). |
| Light turns on or tracks without apparent motion (false triggers). | Sensor sensitivity too high; Heat sources (e.g., car engines, vents); Small animals; Moving foliage. | Adjust SW1 to 'L' or 'M'; Reposition the fixture to avoid heat sources or moving objects. |
| Light stays on continuously. | Continuous motion in detection zone; Faulty sensor. | Ensure no constant motion is present; Power cycle the unit. If issue persists, contact support. |
