Charging the Device

Device Activation and Subscription

An active satellite subscription is required to access the Iridium satellite network for messaging, SOS, and tracking features. Visit the Garmin website to activate your device and select a suitable airtime plan. Some jurisdictions may regulate or prohibit the use of satellite communication devices; ensure compliance with local laws.

Garmin Explore App

Download the Garmin Explore app on your compatible smartphone. This app allows for trip planning, accessing topographical maps, creating waypoints and courses, and syncing data with your inReach Mini 2 device.

Operating Your Device

Power On/Off

To power on the device, press and hold the power button. To power off, press and hold the power button and follow the on-screen prompts.

Two-Way Messaging

The inReach Mini 2 allows you to send and receive text messages with any phone number or email address globally. You can compose messages directly on the device or pair it with your smartphone via Bluetooth and use the Garmin Explore app for easier typing.

Interactive SOS

In an emergency, you can trigger an interactive SOS message to the Garmin International Emergency Response Coordination Center (IERCC), a 24/7 staffed emergency response center. The IERCC will communicate with you and coordinate with local emergency services.

Troubleshooting

No Satellite Signal

  • Ensure the device has a clear view of the sky. Obstructions like dense tree cover, deep canyons, or buildings can block the signal.
  • Move to an open area.
  • Allow several minutes for the device to acquire a satellite signal.

Battery Drains Quickly

  • Reduce tracking frequency if possible.
  • Ensure the device is not constantly searching for a signal in an obstructed area.
  • Check for background processes or frequent screen usage.

Device Not Responding

If the device becomes unresponsive, try a soft reset by holding down the power button for 15 seconds until it powers off, then power it back on.
