Setup
Winding the Watch
Your Gevril Hudson Yard watch is equipped with a Swiss automatic movement. This means it is powered by the motion of your wrist. When fully wound, the watch has a power reserve that allows it to run for a certain period without being worn.
- To manually wind the watch, first ensure the crown is in the fully pushed-in position (Position 0) and screwed down if applicable.
- Unscrew the crown by turning it counter-clockwise until it springs out to Position 0.
- Turn the crown clockwise approximately 30-40 times. This will provide sufficient power to start the watch.
- Once the watch starts running, normal daily wear will keep it wound.
Setting Time and Date
To set the time and date on your watch:
- Unscrew the crown by turning it counter-clockwise until it springs out to Position 0.
- Setting the Date: Gently pull the crown out to Position 1. Turn the crown clockwise or counter-clockwise to adjust the date. Avoid setting the date between 9 PM and 3 AM, as this can damage the movement. If the current time falls within this period, first set the time outside this range, then set the date, and finally reset the time.
- Setting the Time: Pull the crown out further to Position 2. The second hand will stop. Turn the crown to set the hour and minute hands. To ensure accuracy, set the time a few minutes ahead and then turn the crown counter-clockwise to move the hands back to the correct time. This removes any play in the gear train.
- Once the time and date are set, push the crown back into Position 0 and screw it down tightly by turning it clockwise. This ensures water resistance.
Operating Your Watch
Unidirectional Rotating Bezel
The Gevril Hudson Yard features a unidirectional rotating bezel, primarily used for timing events, especially during diving. It rotates only counter-clockwise to prevent accidental increases in timed duration, which is a critical safety feature for divers.
- To use, align the zero marker (usually a triangle or dot) on the bezel with the minute hand at the start of the event you wish to time.
- As time passes, the minute hand will move, indicating the elapsed time against the bezel's markings.
Water Resistance and Helium Release Valve
Your watch is water resistant to 300 meters (1000 feet) or 30 ATM. This rating makes it suitable for professional marine activity and serious surface water sports, but not for saturation diving unless specifically stated. Always ensure the crown is fully screwed down before exposing the watch to water.
The helium release valve is designed for professional divers operating in saturation diving environments. During decompression, helium atoms can enter the watch case. The valve allows these trapped helium atoms to escape, preventing pressure buildup that could damage the watch crystal.

Maintenance
Cleaning Your Watch
- For the watch case and sapphire crystal, use a soft, damp cloth to wipe away dirt and smudges. Avoid harsh chemicals.
- After exposure to saltwater, rinse the watch thoroughly with fresh water and dry it with a soft cloth. Ensure the crown is screwed down before rinsing.
Leather Strap Care
- Avoid prolonged exposure of the leather strap to water, direct sunlight, and extreme temperatures, as this can cause discoloration or damage.
- Clean the leather strap with a soft, dry cloth. For deeper cleaning, use a specialized leather cleaner and conditioner sparingly.
- Allow the strap to air dry naturally if it gets wet.
Regular Servicing
Like any precision instrument, your automatic watch requires periodic servicing to maintain optimal performance and accuracy. It is recommended to have your Gevril watch serviced by an authorized service center every 3-5 years.
Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Watch stops or runs intermittently | Insufficient power reserve (not worn enough or not manually wound). | Manually wind the watch by turning the crown clockwise 30-40 times. Wear the watch regularly for at least 8-10 hours a day. |
| Date does not change at midnight | The watch's internal time is set to AM/PM incorrectly, or the date change mechanism is engaged during the restricted period (9 PM - 3 AM). | Advance the time past 12 PM to determine if it's AM or PM. If the date changes, it's midnight. If not, it's noon. Adjust the time accordingly. Avoid setting the date between 9 PM and 3 AM. |
| Condensation under the crystal | Sudden temperature changes or compromised water resistance. | If condensation persists, it indicates moisture ingress. Seek immediate professional service to prevent damage to the movement. |
