5. Operating Instructions
The SPT SS-0340B Medicine Cooker is designed for automatic decoction of herbal preparations.
- Prepare Ingredients: Place your prepared herbal ingredients into the clean ceramic pot.
- Add Water: Pour the specified amount of water into the ceramic pot. Ensure the water level is sufficient to cover the internal stainless steel heating element at the bottom of the pot. The maximum capacity is 3.4 liters.
- Secure Lid: Place the lid firmly on the ceramic pot.
- Start Decoction: Once plugged in, the cooker will automatically begin the decoction process. The red 'Decoction' indicator light will illuminate.
- Automatic Reduction: The cooker will heat the contents, allowing the liquid to reduce. The process continues until the liquid level drops below the internal heating element. This mechanism is designed to achieve a concentrated volume, often referred to as 'one bowl' in traditional herbal preparation.
- Keep Warm Mode: Once the liquid has reduced to the predetermined level (below the heating element), the cooker will automatically switch to 'Keep Warm' mode. The red 'Decoction' light will turn off, and the green 'Keep Warm' light will illuminate.
- Serve: Carefully unplug the unit. Using the handle, lift the ceramic pot from the power base. Pour the decocted medicine through the spout into a serving cup. Be cautious as the contents will be hot.
6. Cleaning and Maintenance
Proper cleaning and maintenance ensure the longevity and safe operation of your medicine cooker.
- Always Unplug: Before cleaning, always unplug the appliance from the power outlet and allow it to cool completely.
- Ceramic Pot and Lid: Wash the ceramic pot and lid with warm, soapy water using a soft sponge or cloth. Rinse thoroughly with clean water and dry completely. Do not use abrasive cleaners or scouring pads, as these can damage the ceramic surface.
- NOT Dishwasher Safe: The ceramic pot and lid are not suitable for dishwasher cleaning. Hand wash only.
- Power Base: Wipe the exterior of the power base with a damp cloth. Do not immerse the power base in water or any other liquid. Ensure no water enters the electrical components.
- Heating Element: If residue accumulates on the stainless steel heating element, gently clean it with a soft brush or cloth. For stubborn stains, a mild descaling solution designed for kitchen appliances can be used, followed by thorough rinsing. Ensure the element is dry before next use.
- Storage: Store the clean and dry cooker in a cool, dry place.
