3. Setup

3.1 Speaker Placement

Proper speaker placement is crucial for achieving optimal sound quality. Consider the following guidelines:

  • Stereo Setup: For a traditional stereo setup, place the speakers equidistant from your primary listening position and spaced apart to form an equilateral triangle.
  • Bookshelf/Shelf Mounting: When placing on a shelf or stand, ensure the speakers are at ear level when seated. Avoid placing them directly against a wall if possible. If wall-mounting, maintain at least a 1.5-inch air gap between the rear of the speaker and the wall to allow for proper bass port function.
  • Room Acoustics: Experiment with toe-in (angling speakers towards the listening position) to fine-tune the soundstage and imaging.

3.2 Connecting Your Speakers

The R-50M speakers connect to your amplifier or receiver using standard speaker cables. Ensure your amplifier is turned off before making any connections.

  1. Identify the positive (+) and negative (-) terminals on both your amplifier and the R-50M speakers. The R-50M features red (+) and black (-) binding posts.
  2. Connect the positive (+) terminal of your amplifier to the red (+) terminal of the speaker.
  3. Connect the negative (-) terminal of your amplifier to the black (-) terminal of the speaker.
  4. Ensure all connections are secure to prevent signal loss or short circuits.

4. Operating Your Speakers

Once connected, your Klipsch R-50M speakers are ready for use. Turn on your amplifier or receiver and select the appropriate input source. Adjust the volume to your desired listening level. The R-50M speakers are designed for a wide range of audio content, from music to home theater applications.

4.1 Grille Attachment

The R-50M speakers come with low-profile magnetic grilles. You can choose to use the speakers with or without the grilles. Removing the grilles may offer a slightly more open sound and reveals the aesthetic of the spun-copper woofers and Tractrix horn.

5. Maintenance

To maintain the appearance and performance of your Klipsch R-50M speakers, follow these simple maintenance tips:

  • Cleaning: Dust the cabinet surfaces regularly with a soft, dry cloth. For stubborn marks, a slightly damp cloth can be used, followed by a dry cloth. Avoid abrasive cleaners or solvents.
  • Grilles: The magnetic grilles can be gently removed and dusted. If necessary, they can be carefully vacuumed with a soft brush attachment.
  • Environment: Avoid exposing the speakers to direct sunlight, extreme temperatures, or high humidity.

6. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your Klipsch R-50M speakers, refer to the following common troubleshooting steps:

  • No Sound:
    • Ensure your amplifier/receiver is powered on and the correct input source is selected.
    • Check all speaker cable connections at both the amplifier and the speakers for proper polarity and secure contact.
    • Verify that the volume on your amplifier/receiver is not set to minimum or muted.
  • Distorted Sound:
    • Reduce the volume level on your amplifier/receiver.
    • Check speaker cable connections for any loose strands that might be causing a short circuit.
    • Ensure your amplifier's power output is within the recommended range for the R-50M speakers.
  • Uneven Sound from Speakers:
    • Check the balance settings on your amplifier/receiver.
    • Verify that both speakers are connected with correct polarity.

If these steps do not resolve the issue, please contact Klipsch customer support for further assistance.
