1. Introduction

The Yamaha RDS200 Seascooter is an underwater propulsion device designed to enhance recreational diving and snorkeling experiences. It allows users to effortlessly glide through water, conserving energy and extending underwater exploration time. This manual provides essential information for the safe and effective use, maintenance, and care of your RDS200 Seascooter.

2. Safety Information

Always prioritize safety when operating the Yamaha RDS200 Seascooter. Read and understand all instructions before use.

  • Age Restriction: This product is recommended for users aged 16 and above.
  • Water Use Only: The Seascooter is designed for underwater use. Operating the propeller in air can damage the O-ring and lead to water leakage. Do not run the unit out of water for more than 5 seconds.
  • Depth Limit: Do not exceed the rated depth of 65ft (20m).
  • Buoyancy: The RDS200 is designed for saltwater use. It will have less buoyancy in freshwater and may slowly sink.
  • Battery Safety: Handle the sealed lead-acid battery with care. Follow all charging and storage instructions to prevent damage or injury.
  • Supervision: Always use the Seascooter under appropriate supervision, especially for new users.
  • Propeller Guard: Ensure the propeller guard is securely in place before operation. Keep fingers, hair, and loose clothing away from the propeller.

3. Package Contents

4. Setup and Assembly

Proper assembly and preparation are crucial for safe operation. Refer to the tutorial video for visual guidance.

4.1. Disassembling and Removing Battery

  1. Unlatch and remove both latches on the nose cone.
  2. Pull the outer nose cone off.
  3. Remove the ballast chamber.
  4. Unscrew the vent plug.
  5. Screw in the wing-nut.
  6. Install the safety O-ring.
  7. Insert the pump into the t-screw.
  8. To break the seal, give it a couple of pumps.
  9. Remove the inner nose cone.
  10. Remove the battery.

Note: All Yamaha Seascooters have a hologram serial number in the battery compartment, which may be needed for servicing and warranty purposes.

4.2. Charging the Battery

  1. Plug the battery into the charger.
  2. Ensure the battery and charger click into place securely.
  3. Charge times vary; refer to the manual for specifics.
  4. A solid green LED on the charger indicates the battery is charging.
  5. A blinking LED indicates a fully charged battery.
  6. Charge the battery every 3 months, even during storage, to maintain battery health.
  7. Remove the battery from the Seascooter for storage.

4.3. O-Ring Maintenance

Regular O-ring maintenance is essential to prevent water ingress.

  1. Ensure all O-rings are properly lubricated with the supplied silicone gel.
  2. Fit the O-ring, then apply lubricant evenly.

4.4. Building the Unit

  1. Place the battery inside the unit.
  2. Connect the battery leads with the unit leads. For a secure fit, ensure the leads click together.
  3. Tuck the battery leads inside the unit.
  4. Match the inner nose cone tab with the unit's tab. Push down firmly.
  5. Screw in the vent plug.
  6. To adjust the unit's buoyancy, add weights to the buoyancy chamber (weights not included).
  7. Reinstall the buoyancy chamber.
  8. Match the outer nose cone tab with the inner nose cone tab.
  9. Reinstall the nose cone latches.

4.5. Installing an Action Camera

The Yamaha RDS200 Seascooter features a built-in mount for action cameras (e.g., GoPro HERO 3, 3+, 4, or 5, sold separately).

  1. Slide the action camera into the mount.
  2. Screw the action camera securely onto the mount.

5. Operating the Unit

Follow these steps to operate your Yamaha RDS200 Seascooter:

  1. Flip the master switch into the ON position.
  2. Pull the right trigger continuously to activate the motor.
  3. The RDS200 operates at a single speed.

Warning: Keeping the propeller rotating in the air instead of water will cause damage to the O-ring, potentially leading to water leakage. Do not run the unit out of the water for more than 5 seconds.

6. Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and performance of your Seascooter.

  • Cleaning: After each use, rinse the Seascooter thoroughly with fresh water to remove salt, sand, and debris.
  • O-Ring Inspection: Periodically inspect the O-rings for any signs of wear, cracks, or damage. Replace if necessary. Always lubricate O-rings with silicone gel before reassembly.
  • Battery Care: Charge the battery fully after each use. For long-term storage, remove the battery from the unit and charge it every three months.
  • Storage: Store the Seascooter in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.

7. Troubleshooting

This section addresses common issues you might encounter with your Yamaha RDS200 Seascooter.

  • Unit Not Activating:
    • Ensure the master switch is in the ON position.
    • Check if the battery is fully charged and properly connected.
    • Verify that the triggers are being pulled correctly.
  • Water Leakage:
