1. Overview

The BIOSYNEX Fingertip Pulse Oximeter is a portable device designed to measure oxygen saturation (SpO2) and pulse rate (PR bpm) non-invasively. It is suitable for home use and for monitoring various respiratory conditions, as well as for athletes at high altitudes or during intense physical activity. The device operates with ease, providing quick and reliable readings.

2. Safety Information

Please read all instructions carefully before using the device. This pulse oximeter is intended for non-invasive spot-check measurement of functional oxygen saturation of arterial hemoglobin (SpO2) and pulse rate. It is not intended for continuous monitoring.

• Consult a physician before making any medical decisions based on the readings.
• Do not use the device in an MRI or CT environment.
• Keep the device out of reach of children.
• Avoid using the oximeter on the same arm as a blood pressure cuff or arterial catheter.

5. Setup

5.1 Battery Installation

1. Locate the battery compartment cover on the back of the device.
2. Slide the cover open.
3. Insert the provided AAA battery, ensuring the correct polarity (+/-) as indicated inside the compartment.
4. Close the battery compartment cover securely.

5.2 Attaching the Lanyard

If desired, attach the lanyard to the designated loop on the pulse oximeter for convenient carrying.

6. Operating Instructions

6.1 Taking a Measurement

1. Ensure your hand is relaxed and still.
2. Open the clamp of the pulse oximeter.
3. Insert one of your fingers (preferably the index, middle, or ring finger) into the rubber opening of the oximeter, ensuring your fingertip rests on the sensor.
4. Release the clamp. The device will automatically turn on and begin measurement.
5. Keep your finger still during the measurement. Readings for SpO2 and pulse rate will appear on the display within a few seconds.
6. The device will automatically power off after approximately 8 seconds of inactivity.

6.2 Understanding Readings

The display shows two main values:

• SpO2 (%): This indicates the level of oxygen saturation in the blood. A normal value typically ranges from 94% to 100%.
• PR bpm (Heartbeats per minute): This indicates your pulse rate. A normal value typically ranges from 50 to 80 beats per minute.

6.3 Applications

The oximeter is useful for:

• Monitoring blood oxygenation for individuals with respiratory conditions such as sleep apnea, COPD, asthma, pneumonia, lung cancer, anemia, heart attack, or heart failure.
• Athletes monitoring heart rate and blood oxygen saturation during high-level sports or at altitude to assess physical capacity limits.

7. Maintenance

7.1 Cleaning

• Clean the surface of the oximeter with a soft cloth dampened with medical alcohol (70% ethanol or isopropanol).
• Do not immerse the device in water or any other cleaning solution.
• Ensure the device is dry before reuse.

7.2 Battery Replacement

When the low battery indicator appears on the display, replace the AAA battery as described in the "Battery Installation" section. Dispose of used batteries according to local regulations.

7.3 Storage

Store the device in its storage pouch in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
