- Insert Portafilter: Securely insert the portafilter into the group head.
- Place Cup: Position your espresso cup(s) under the portafilter spouts.
- Start Brew: Press the brew button. The machine will begin extracting espresso. The digital display will function as a shot timer during extraction.
- Stop Brew: Press the brew button again to stop the extraction once the desired volume is reached.
The dual boiler system allows for simultaneous brewing and steaming, eliminating wait times between preparing espresso and frothing milk.
5.3 PID Control and Temperature Adjustment
The Silvia Pro X features dedicated PID controls for both the brew and steam circuits, offering precise temperature management. You can adjust temperatures to the degree via the digital display, allowing for fine-tuning of your espresso extraction and steam quality.
5.4 Soft Pre-infusion
The machine includes adjustable low-pressure pre-infusion, which gently wets the coffee puck before full pressure is applied. This feature helps to improve shot quality by ensuring even saturation of the coffee grounds.
5.5 Steaming Milk
- Activate Steam: Ensure the steam boiler is at temperature. Activate the steam wand using the dedicated steam button.
- Purge Wand: Briefly open the steam valve to purge any condensed water from the wand.
- Froth Milk: Immerse the steam wand tip just below the surface of cold milk in a frothing pitcher. Open the steam valve fully. Create a vortex to incorporate air and then lower the wand to heat the milk to your desired temperature and texture.
- Clean Wand: Immediately after steaming, wipe the steam wand with a damp cloth and briefly purge steam to clear any milk residue.
6. Maintenance
6.1 Daily Cleaning
- Drip Tray: Empty and clean the drip tray daily to prevent overflow and bacterial growth.
- Portafilter and Baskets: Rinse the portafilter and filter baskets after each use.
- Group Head: Wipe down the group head and shower screen with a damp cloth.
6.2 Regular Backflushing
Backflushing is crucial for cleaning the group head and internal components. Use the provided backflushing basket insert and cleaning tabs as per the instructions on the cleaning tab packaging. Perform backflushing regularly, typically once a week for moderate use.
6.3 Water Tank Cleaning
Periodically remove and clean the 2-liter water tank with mild soap and water to prevent mineral buildup and maintain water quality.
