2. Safety Information

WARNING: Improper use of distillation equipment can be dangerous and may be illegal in some jurisdictions. Always consult local laws and regulations regarding alcohol distillation before operation.

  • Ensure adequate ventilation in your working area to prevent the buildup of flammable vapors.
  • Never operate the still unattended.
  • Keep flammable materials away from the heat source.
  • Always check for leaks before and during operation. The sealing system is designed to prevent gas leaks, but regular inspection is crucial.
  • Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), such as heat-resistant gloves and eye protection.
  • Allow the still to cool completely before disassembling or cleaning.
  • Keep out of reach of children and pets.

4. Setup Instructions

Follow these steps to assemble your Seeutek Alcohol Still:

  1. Initial Cleaning: Before first use, clean all components with a solution of equal parts water and vinegar. Rinse thoroughly with clean water.
  2. Install Thermometer: Insert the dual display thermometer into the designated port on the main pot lid. Ensure the silicone gasket and screw are properly secured for a tight seal.
  3. Install Exhaust Valve: For fermentation, install the one-way exhaust valve (air lock) into its designated port on the main pot lid. This allows gases to escape while preventing contaminants from entering.
  4. Connect Condensation Barrel: Attach the condensation barrel (cooling pot) to the main pot. The extended copper coil design enhances cooling efficiency.
  5. Connect Water Pump: Connect one end of a silicone hose to the water inlet of the condensation barrel and the other end to the water pump. Place the water pump in a bucket of cold water. Connect another silicone hose from the water outlet of the condensation barrel back into the bucket to create a circulating cooling system.
  6. Connect Liquid Outlet: Attach the copper liquid outlet tube to the condensation barrel's output port.

5. Operating Instructions

This still is suitable for various applications, including home brewing alcohol, making hydrosols, and distilling water.

  1. Prepare Ingredients: Fill the main pot with your desired raw materials (e.g., fermented mash for alcohol, plant material for hydrosols, or water for distillation). Ensure the pot is not overfilled.
  2. Secure Lid: Place the lid on the main pot and secure it tightly using the stainless steel clamps. The integral seal O-ring and seal washers prevent gas leaks, preserving product quality.
  3. Apply Heat: Place the assembled still on a suitable heat source. This still is compatible with various kitchen stovetops, including gas stoves, electric stoves, and wood stoves.
  4. Activate Cooling System: Turn on the circulating water pump to ensure a continuous flow of cold water through the condensation barrel. This rapid circulation is crucial for efficient condensation.
  5. Monitor Temperature: Observe the dual display thermometer to monitor the temperature inside the main pot. Maintain the desired temperature for your specific distillation process.
  6. Collect Distillate: As vapor condenses, the distilled liquid will exit through the copper liquid outlet tube. Collect the distillate in a clean, appropriate container.

6. Cleaning and Maintenance

Proper cleaning and maintenance ensure the longevity and performance of your still:

  • After each use, allow the still to cool completely.
  • Disassemble all components and wash them with warm, soapy water.
  • Rinse thoroughly to remove all soap residue.
  • For stubborn residues, a solution of vinegar and water can be used.
  • Ensure all parts, especially the copper coil and silicone hoses, are completely dry before reassembling or storing to prevent mold or corrosion.
  • Store the still in a clean, dry place.

7. Troubleshooting

Here are some common issues and their solutions:

ProblemPossible CauseSolution
No distillate or very slow flowInsufficient heat; inadequate cooling; leaks.Increase heat source; ensure water pump is running and water is cold; check all seals and connections for leaks.
Distillate is cloudy or impureTemperature too high; improper cleaning; initial foreshots not discarded.Reduce heat to maintain stable temperature; ensure thorough cleaning before use; discard the first small amount of distillate (foreshots).
Leaks from connectionsLoose connections; worn out seals.Tighten all clamps and connectors; replace worn silicone gaskets or seal washers.
Water pump not workingNot plugged in; airlock; debris.Check power connection; ensure pump is fully submerged; clean pump intake of any debris.
