Operating Instructions

The main menu of the tester offers four primary functions:

  1. Wire Map:

This function is used for wire map measurement to check the end-to-end continuity and positioning errors of the M (Main), L (Local), and R (Remote) ends of the cable. It helps identify open circuits, short circuits, and crossover connections.

    • Select "Wire Map" from the main menu using the navigation buttons.
    • Connect the cable to be tested between the main unit and a remote unit.
    • The display will show the wiring configuration and any detected faults (e.g., open, short, cross).
    • Note: When verifying a breakpoint in a network cable, the breakpoint should be identified in the local line diagram. Do not connect to the remote unit for breakpoint detection.
  2. Pair & Length:

This function allows you to measure the length of the cable and verify the integrity of cable pairs. It can detect open circuits and measure the distance to an open or short circuit.

    • Select "Pair & Length" from the main menu.
    • Connect the cable to the main unit. For length measurement, the remote unit is typically not required unless measuring a specific segment.
    • The display will show the cable length and status of each pair.
  3. Coax/Tel:

This mode is for testing coaxial and telephone cables. Follow the on-screen prompts for specific connection and testing procedures for these cable types.

  4. SETUP:

The SETUP menu allows you to configure various settings of the device, such as units of measurement, calibration, and other system preferences.

    • Navigate to "SETUP" to access calibration functions for on/off, crossover, and short circuit length of the network cable.
    • Perform calibration as needed to ensure accurate measurements.

  • Device Not Powering On:
    • Check if batteries are inserted correctly and have sufficient charge. Replace if necessary.
    • Ensure the power button is fully pressed.
  • Inaccurate Readings:
    • Verify that cables are securely connected to both the main unit and remote units.
    • Ensure the correct test mode is selected for the cable type.
    • Perform a calibration from the SETUP menu if available.
  • LCD Display Issues:
    • If the display is dim, check battery levels.
    • If the display is blank or frozen, try turning the device off and on again.
