3. Setup
- Unfold the Game Board: Place the cardboard game board on a flat playing surface.
- Separate Cards: Shuffle the Chance cards and place them face down on their designated space on the board. Do the same for the Community Chest cards.
- Banker: One player is designated as the Banker. The Banker is responsible for all money not in play, properties not yet owned, houses, and auctions. The Banker can also play as a regular player.
- Distribute Money: Each player receives a starting amount of Monopoly money from the Banker. Refer to the specific rules for the exact starting amount (typically 1500 units, but may vary for Duel Time).
- Choose Tokens: Each player selects one of the two zinc tokens and places it on the 'GO' space.
- Houses: Place the red and blue houses near the board, accessible to both players.
4. Operating (How to Play)
The game proceeds in turns. The player who rolls the highest number on the dice goes first. Play then continues clockwise.
- Roll the Dice: On your turn, roll the single dice and move your token clockwise around the board the number of spaces indicated.
- Landing on a Space: The action you take depends on the space your token lands on:
- Unowned Property: You may buy the property for the price printed on the board. If you choose not to buy it, the Banker immediately auctions it off to the highest bidder.
- Owned Property: If another player owns the property, you must pay them rent as indicated on the property card.
- Chance or Community Chest: Draw the top card from the respective pile and follow its instructions. Return the card to the bottom of the pile after use.
- Go: If you pass or land on 'GO', collect 200 from the Bank.
- Jail: If you land on 'Go to Jail', move your token directly to the 'Jail' space. You do not collect 200 for passing 'GO'.
- Free Parking: No action is taken.
- Tax Spaces: Pay the indicated amount to the Bank.
- Building Houses: Once you own all properties in a color group, you can build houses on them. Houses must be built evenly across the properties in the group.
- Trading: Players can trade properties, money, or 'Get Out of Jail Free' cards with each other at any time.
5. Winning the Game
The game ends when one of the following conditions is met:
- Property Acquisition: The first player to acquire all properties on the game board wins.
- Bankruptcy: If a player cannot pay their debts (rent, taxes, etc.) to the Bank or the other player, they are bankrupt and out of the game. The remaining player wins.
Monopoly Duel Time is designed for a quicker game experience compared to the traditional version, often concluding within 15-25 minutes.
