Setup and Installation

Before you begin, ensure you have the necessary tools (e.g., plumber's putty or silicone sealant, adjustable wrench) and that your sink has an overflow hole. Turn off the water supply to the sink before starting installation.

  1. Disassemble the Drain: Unscrew the mounting nut and remove the washers from the drain body.
  2. Apply Sealant: Apply a thin bead of plumber's putty or silicone sealant around the underside of the drain flange (the top part that sits inside the sink).
  3. Insert Drain into Sink: Insert the drain body through the drain hole from the top of the sink. Ensure the overflow holes on the drain body align with the overflow channel in your sink.
  4. Install Washers and Nut: From underneath the sink, slide the rubber washer, then the plastic washer (if included), and finally the mounting nut onto the drain body.
  5. Tighten: Hand-tighten the mounting nut, then use an adjustable wrench to tighten it securely. Do not overtighten, as this can damage the sink or drain. Wipe away any excess sealant.
  6. Connect P-Trap: Connect your P-trap assembly to the tailpiece of the pop-up drain. Ensure all connections are tight to prevent leaks.
  7. Test for Leaks: Turn on the water supply and fill the sink. Check for any leaks around the drain and P-trap connections.

Maintenance

To ensure the longevity and appearance of your brushed gold drain stopper, follow these maintenance guidelines:

  • Regular Cleaning: Clean the drain stopper regularly with a soft cloth and mild soap. Avoid abrasive cleaners, harsh chemicals, or scouring pads, as these can damage the brushed gold finish.
  • Avoid Hard Water Stains: Wipe the drain dry after each use to prevent water spots and mineral buildup, especially in hard water areas.
  • Periodic Inspection: Periodically check the drain for any debris accumulation that might affect its pop-up mechanism or drainage. The pop-up top can usually be unscrewed for easier cleaning of the internal mechanism.

Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your drain stopper, consider the following:

  • Slow Drainage: Check for debris (hair, soap scum) accumulated around the pop-up mechanism or inside the drain body. The pop-up top can often be unscrewed for cleaning.
  • Leaks: Ensure all connections, especially the mounting nut and P-trap, are securely tightened. Verify that plumber's putty or silicone sealant was properly applied during installation. If leaks persist, check the condition of the rubber washers and replace if necessary.
  • Stopper Not Sealing/Opening: Inspect the pop-up mechanism for any obstructions or damage. Ensure it is properly seated and can move freely.
