3. Installation Guidelines

Proper installation is crucial for optimal spark plug performance and engine longevity. If you are unsure about any step, consult a qualified mechanic.

  1. Safety First: Ensure the engine is cool and the vehicle's ignition is off. Disconnect the battery's negative terminal to prevent accidental starting.
  2. Access Spark Plugs: Locate and carefully remove the spark plug wires or coil packs. Note the order for correct reinstallation.
  3. Remove Old Plugs: Use a spark plug socket to loosen and remove the old spark plugs. Inspect them for signs of wear or engine issues.
  4. Inspect New Plugs: Verify the new NGK BKR7E spark plugs are free from damage. The gap is pre-set to 0.035 inches (0.9mm) from the factory; avoid adjusting unless specified by your vehicle's service manual.
  5. Install New Plugs: Hand-thread the new spark plugs into the cylinder head to avoid cross-threading. Once finger-tight, use a torque wrench to tighten them to the specified torque values:
    • Cast Iron Heads: 18-25.3 Lb. Ft.
    • Aluminum Heads: 18-21.6 Lb. Ft.
  6. Reconnect Components: Reattach spark plug wires or coil packs in their correct order. Reconnect the battery's negative terminal.
