  • Initial Start-up: After connecting the unit and ensuring water flow, switch on the power. The UVC lamp will immediately begin its work.

  • Continuous Operation: For optimal results, the UVC unit should operate continuously during the pond season (typically spring to autumn).
  • Water Clarity: You should observe a noticeable improvement in water clarity within a few days to weeks, depending on the initial condition of your pond water.

6. Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and effectiveness of your PondoTronic UVC 11.

  1. Power Disconnection: ALWAYS disconnect the power plug before any maintenance work.
  2. Quartz Sleeve Cleaning: Over time, the quartz sleeve surrounding the UVC lamp can accumulate deposits, reducing the lamp's effectiveness.
    • Carefully remove the UVC unit from the pond system.
    • Open the housing according to the manufacturer's instructions (refer to diagrams if available on the unit itself).
    • Gently clean the quartz sleeve with a soft cloth and a mild cleaning solution (e.g., vinegar solution) to remove any calcium or algae buildup. Rinse thoroughly with clean water.
    • Ensure the quartz sleeve is completely dry before reassembly.
  3. UVC Lamp Replacement: The effectiveness of the UVC lamp diminishes over time, even if it still glows. It is recommended to replace the UVC lamp annually, ideally at the start of the pond season.
    • Disconnect power and remove the unit.
    • Open the housing and carefully remove the old UVC lamp. Avoid touching the new lamp with bare hands, as oils can reduce its lifespan. Use a cloth or gloves.
    • Insert the new 11-watt UVC lamp (Pontec replacement lamp recommended) into its socket.
    • Reassemble the unit, ensuring all seals are correctly seated to prevent leaks.
  4. Winter Storage: Before the first frost, disconnect the unit, drain all water, clean it thoroughly, and store it in a frost-free location.
