4. Setup & Assembly
This manual retractable awning is designed for easy assembly. It is recommended to have two people for installation. No drilling is required for setup.
4.1 Unpacking and Component Check
Carefully open the packaging and lay out all components. Refer to the "Package Contents" section to ensure all parts are present.

4.2 Assembling the Vertical Support Columns
- Connect Column Sections: Select two groups of column sections (upper, middle, lower pillars). Insert the post into the corresponding post and tighten the screws to secure them. Repeat for the second column.
- Attach Base Plates: Connect the base plates to the bottom of each assembled column. Ensure the spring and nut are correctly installed, then attach the non-slip mat. Repeat for the top non-slip mounting.
- Adjust Column Height: Measure the height of your installation position. Adjust the middle and upper column sections so that the total height of the column (including anti-slip pads) is 2-3 cm lower than your installation height. Secure the chosen height by pushing the long screw through the connecting hole and locking it.
4.3 Assembling the Awning Fabric and Roller
- Connect Roller Sections: Connect the two roller sections using the short middle connecting piece. Secure it by locking the screws on both sides.
- Install Front Rod: Assemble the front rod of the shade cloth by connecting its sections and securing with the keyhole mechanism.
- Insert Fabric into Roller: Carefully insert the top edge of the awning fabric into the slot on the roller. This may require slow, steady insertion. Fix it using the cloth threading strip.
- Install Roller Plugs: Roll up the shade cloth. Cut off any excess hose threading strips. Align the plug of the black long screw with the hole on the right side of the drum and install it. For the left side, align the plug of the black short screw with the hole and install it. Ensure the correct plugs are used for each side (long screw for right, short screw for left).
- Attach Front Crossbar: Find the awning rod jack on the fabric and insert the front crossbar into it.
4.4 Final Assembly and Positioning
- Install Fixed Buckles: Install the fixed buckle on the left upper crossbar and attach it to the upper column of the vertical bar. Connect the column and the left support rod, then install it in the middle column of the vertical rod. Secure the left support rod.
- Connect Roller to Support Rod: Connect the roller with the fixing buckle of the support rod. Ensure gaskets are added during installation and large nuts are used to lock it securely.
- Install Right Side Support Rod and Gearbox: Repeat the previous steps for the right side, installing the right side support rod and gearbox. Secure the right support rod, taking care to install the gasket and using large nuts.
- Install Hand Rocker: Install the hand rocker on the right side of the column.
- Erect the Awning: With two people, carefully erect the awning. Ensure the posts are perpendicular to the ground and the tarpaulin support rod is parallel to the post. Hold the column with one hand and rotate the expansion part of the column base clockwise until the column tops the roof, securing it in place.

5. Operating Instructions
The Outsunny Manual Retractable Patio Awning is designed for simple manual operation.
- Extending the Awning: To extend the awning, rotate the hand crank counter-clockwise. The awning fabric will slowly unroll, and the support arms will extend forward.
- Retracting the Awning: To retract the awning, rotate the hand crank clockwise. The awning fabric will roll back onto the roller, and the support arms will fold inward.
- Adjusting Angle: The awning's angle can be adjusted between 0-90 degrees. Use the hand crank to find the desired angle for optimal shade.
- Adjusting Height: The telescopic poles allow for height adjustment between 5.6' and 9.2' (170-280 cm). This adjustment should be made during initial setup or when repositioning the awning, ensuring the poles are securely locked at the desired height.
6. Maintenance
Proper maintenance will extend the life and appearance of your awning.
- Cleaning the Fabric: Clean the polyester fabric with mild soap and water. Do not use harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners, as these can damage the material and its UV protective coating. Rinse thoroughly and allow to air dry completely before retracting.
- Frame Care: Periodically wipe down the powder-coated steel frame and aluminum roller with a damp cloth to remove dirt and debris.
- Seasonal Storage: For prolonged periods of non-use, especially during winter or severe weather, it is recommended to fully retract the awning and store it in a dry, protected area.
- Regular Inspection: Regularly check all screws, nuts, and connections to ensure they remain tight. Inspect the fabric for any tears or damage.

7. Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Awning does not extend/retract smoothly | Mechanism obstruction, loose connections, or damaged crank. | Check for any obstructions in the mechanism. Ensure all screws and connections are tight. Inspect the hand crank for damage. |
| Awning sags or is unstable | Poles not securely tightened, incorrect height adjustment, or uneven installation surface. | Re-check pole height adjustment and ensure they are locked. Verify the installation surface is level and stable. Ensure the expansion part of the column base is fully tightened against the roof/ceiling. |
| Water accumulation on fabric | Awning left extended during rain, or incorrect angle. | Always retract the awning during rain. Adjust the angle to allow for water runoff if light rain is expected (though retraction is always recommended). |
