1. Introduction

This manual provides detailed instructions for the safe and effective use of your ShowMaven Photography Lighting Kit. Please read this manual thoroughly before assembly and operation to ensure proper setup and to maximize the lifespan of your equipment. This kit is designed for product photography, portrait photography, and video shooting.

2. Safety Information

• Always ensure all electrical connections are secure and bulbs are properly seated before powering on.
• Do not operate equipment with wet hands or in damp conditions to prevent electrical shock.
• Position light stands on a stable, level surface to prevent tipping. Consider using sandbags for added stability, especially in outdoor or high-traffic areas.
• Allow bulbs to cool completely before handling or storing to prevent burns.
• Keep all cables organized and out of pathways to avoid tripping hazards.
• Do not exceed the maximum load capacity of light stands or background support systems.
• Unplug the kit from the power source when not in use or before cleaning.

4. Setup Instructions

4.1 Background Support System Assembly

1. Extend the legs of the two light stands for the background support system and secure them firmly.
2. Insert the crossbar sections into each other to achieve the desired width (Max. 300cm, Med. 225cm, Min. 150cm).
3. Attach the assembled crossbar to the top of each light stand.
4. Adjust the height of the light stands (92-200cm) and tighten the clasp locks.

4.2 Light Stand Assembly

1. Extend the three legs of the light stand to form a stable base.
2. Loosen the quick adjust clasp locks and extend the central column to the desired height (27-78 inches / 68-200 cm).
3. Tighten all clasp locks securely to prevent the stand from collapsing.

4.3 Softbox Setup

1. Open the softbox and insert the metal rods into the designated pockets on the inside of the softbox and into the central ring.
2. Attach the softbox to the single head bulb holder by aligning the central ring with the holder and securing it.
3. Mount the bulb holder with the attached softbox onto the top spigot of a light stand.
4. Secure the softbox diffuser cloth to the front of the softbox using the hook-and-loop fasteners.

4.4 Umbrella Setup

1. Open the umbrella by pushing the runner up the shaft until it locks into place.
2. Insert the umbrella shaft through the hole on the single head bulb holder.
3. Mount the bulb holder with the umbrella onto the top spigot of a light stand.
4. Adjust the umbrella's position relative to the bulb to control light spread and softness.

4.5 Bulb Installation

1. Ensure the bulb holder is unplugged from the power source.
2. Carefully screw the 45W CFL daylight bulb into the E27 base of the bulb holder until snug. Do not overtighten.
3. Once all components are assembled and positioned, plug the bulb holder into a power outlet.

5. Operating Instructions

5.1 Adjusting Lighting

• Light Stand Height: Adjust the height of the light stands using the quick adjust clasp locks to position the light source at the desired level.
• Lamp Holder Angle: The single head bulb holders feature a 210-degree rotatable head, allowing you to angle the light precisely towards your subject. Loosen the adjustment knob, set the angle, and tighten firmly.
• Power Control: Use the in-line on/off switch on the bulb holder cable to control the power to the bulb.

5.2 Using the 5-in-1 Reflector

The 24-inch 5-in-1 reflector offers versatile light modification:

• Translucent: Diffuses harsh light, creating a softer, more even illumination.
• Silver: Increases specular highlights and yields a high-contrast image. Ideal for product photography.
• Gold: Produces a warm fill light, suitable for portraits and sunset effects.
• White: Provides a neutral, soft fill light, reducing shadows without altering color temperature.
• Black: Blocks unwanted light or creates shadows for more dramatic effects.

5.3 Backdrop Usage

1. Drape the desired polyester fabric backdrop (white, black, or green) over the crossbar of the background support system.
2. Use the fish mouth clamps to secure the backdrop to the crossbar and prevent wrinkles or sagging.
3. For the white backdrop, if transparency is an issue, consider layering the black backdrop behind it to block ambient light.

6. Maintenance

• Cleaning: Wipe down light stands and metal components with a soft, dry cloth. For softboxes and umbrellas, use a slightly damp cloth if necessary, avoiding harsh chemicals. Polyester backdrops are machine washable and can be ironed at a low temperature.
• Bulb Replacement: Replace CFL bulbs with E27 base, 45W, 5500K daylight bulbs when needed. Ensure the unit is unplugged and bulbs are cool before replacement.
• Storage: Disassemble the kit and store all components in the provided carry bag to protect them from dust and damage. Store in a cool, dry place.

7. Troubleshooting

• Light Not Turning On:
  Solution: Check if the bulb is securely screwed into the holder. Verify the power cable is firmly plugged into both the bulb holder and the wall outlet. Ensure the in-line switch is in the 'ON' position. Test the bulb in another working fixture if possible, or try a new bulb.
• Stand Instability:
  Solution: Ensure the legs of the light stand are fully extended and spread wide. Tighten all quick adjust clasp locks. For background stands, ensure crossbar sections are fully inserted. Consider using sandbags on the base of the stands for increased stability.
• Wrinkled Backdrop:
  Solution: Polyester backdrops can be ironed or steamed at a low temperature to remove wrinkles. Ensure the backdrop is stretched taut when clamped to the support system.
• Uneven Lighting:
  Solution: Adjust the position and angle of the softboxes or umbrellas. Experiment with the 5-in-1 reflector to fill in shadows or diffuse light. Ensure bulbs are functioning correctly and are of the same wattage and color temperature.
