The Keychron K6 Pro is a 65% layout wireless custom mechanical keyboard designed for enhanced typing experience and versatility. It features QMK/VIA programmability, hot-swappable switches, and supports both Bluetooth 5.1 wireless and USB-C wired connections. This keyboard is compatible with macOS, Windows, and Linux operating systems.

Setup

1. Connecting the Keyboard

The K6 Pro supports both wireless Bluetooth 5.1 and wired USB-C connections.

Bluetooth Connection:
  1. Ensure the keyboard's mode switch (located on the side) is set to 'Bluetooth'.
  2. On your device (laptop, phone, tablet), enable Bluetooth and search for 'Keychron K6 Pro'.
  3. Select the keyboard to pair. The keyboard can connect to up to 3 devices simultaneously. Switch between paired devices using Fn1 + Q, Fn1 + W, or Fn1 + E.
Wired Connection:
  • Ensure the keyboard's mode switch is set to 'Cable'.
  • Connect the keyboard to your computer using the provided USB-C cable.

2. Operating System Switch

The K6 Pro has a dedicated switch to toggle between macOS and Windows layouts. Locate the switch on the side of the keyboard and set it to your desired operating system for optimal key functionality.

3. Charging the Keyboard

Connect the USB-C cable to the keyboard and a power source (e.g., computer USB port, wall adapter). The keyboard features a rechargeable battery. An indicator light will show charging status.

Operation

1. Key Combinations (Fn Keys)

The K6 Pro utilizes Fn (Function) key combinations to access various features and multimedia controls. Refer to the tables below for common combinations:

2. QMK/VIA Customization

The K6 Pro is fully programmable with QMK/VIA firmware. This allows you to remap any key, create macro commands, and customize lighting effects. To use QMK/VIA:

  1. Connect the keyboard to your computer via USB-C cable.
  2. Download and install the VIA software or access the VIA web application.
  3. Follow the on-screen instructions to customize your keymap and macros. Note: Key remapping is performed in wired mode, but the changes apply to both wired and wireless modes.

3. Hot-Swappable Switches

The K6 Pro features hot-swappable sockets, allowing you to change mechanical switches without soldering. It supports most 3-pin and 5-pin MX mechanical switches.

  • To remove a switch, use the provided switch puller to gently grip and pull the switch upwards.
  • To install a new switch, align the pins of the new switch with the holes on the PCB and press down firmly until it clicks into place. Ensure pins are not bent.

4. RGB Backlight Control

The keyboard features RGB backlighting. Use Fn1 + Light effect key to cycle through different backlight effects. Use Fn2 + Left/Right arrow keys to change backlight colors.

Maintenance

1. Cleaning the Keyboard

To clean your keyboard, first disconnect it from all power sources. Use a soft, lint-free cloth slightly dampened with water or a mild cleaning solution. For deeper cleaning, remove keycaps using the provided keycap puller and use compressed air to clear debris from between switches.

2. Switch and Keycap Replacement

As the K6 Pro is hot-swappable, you can easily replace individual switches or keycaps. Use the provided tools for safe removal and installation. Ensure proper alignment to avoid damaging pins or sockets.

Troubleshooting

  • Keyboard not connecting via Bluetooth: Ensure the keyboard is in Bluetooth mode and discoverable. Remove previous pairings from your device and try pairing again. Ensure the keyboard is charged.
  • Keys not responding: Check if the keyboard is in the correct operating system mode (Mac/Windows). If using wired mode, ensure the cable is securely connected. If a specific key is not working, consider hot-swapping the switch for a new one.
  • Backlight issues: Use the Fn key combinations to adjust brightness or cycle through effects. Ensure the keyboard is not in a low-power state.
  • QMK/VIA not detecting keyboard: Ensure the keyboard is connected via USB-C cable and the mode switch is set to 'Cable'. Restart the VIA software or web application.
