5. Setup and Installation

This YAMATIC pump is designed for vertical engine pressure washers with a 7/8" shaft. Ensure your pressure washer matches these specifications for proper fitment.

5.1 Compatibility Check

Before installation, verify the mounting dimensions and shaft type of your existing pump against the specifications provided. This pump is a front-facing vertical pump. If your original pump has one bolt mount above the water connections, it's a front-facing unit. If two of the bolt mounts are above the water connections, it's a rear-facing unit, and this pump will not be compatible.

Mounting dimensions for YAMATIC Pressure Washer Pump

Figure 5: Detailed mounting dimensions for the YAMATIC 7/8" Shaft Vertical Pump. Key measurements include shaft center to 3 mounting bolts (4" / 101.7mm), 3/8" (10.5mm) mounting bolt size, 7.71 inch and 6.43 inch bolt patterns, 7/8" (22.2mm) shaft, 2 1/4" (56.7mm) depth, and 3/16" key width.

Important Note on Frame Covers: Some pressure washers have a front frame cover that may obstruct the water outlet of the new pump. If your pressure washer has a front frame cover, measure the height from the bottom of the engine to the edge of the frame cover. This height must be less than 3 inches for proper clearance. If it is 3 inches or more, the pump may not fit without modification to the frame cover.

5.2 Installation Steps (General)

  1. Prepare the Pressure Washer: Ensure the pressure washer is off, cooled, and the spark plug wire is disconnected. Drain any remaining water from the old pump and hoses.
  2. Remove Old Pump: Carefully unbolt and remove the old pump from the engine. Note the orientation and any spacers or washers used.
  3. Install Shaft Key: Insert the new shaft key (included) into the keyway on the engine shaft.
  4. Mount New Pump: Align the new YAMATIC pump with the engine shaft and the mounting holes. Gently slide the pump onto the shaft.
  5. Check for Gaps and Use Washers: If your engine shaft length is longer than the engine flange (PTO) to the shaft end, you may find a gap between the pump boss and the engine bottom or flange. In such cases, insert the provided washers into this gap before tightening the bolts. Some engines may require washers for all three pump bosses.
  6. Secure Bolts: Use the included mounting bolts and nuts to secure the pump firmly to the engine. Tighten evenly.
  7. Connect Hoses: Attach your garden hose to the 3/4" NH inlet and your pressure washer hose to the M22x1.5-14mm outlet. Ensure all connections are tight to prevent leaks.
  8. Connect Siphon Tube: If using, connect the chemical siphon tube to the chemical injection port.

6. Operating Instructions

Once the pump is securely installed, follow these general operating guidelines for your pressure washer.

  • Water Supply: Connect the pressure washer to a reliable water source (garden hose) and ensure the water supply is turned on fully before starting the engine.
  • Prime the Pump: Squeeze the trigger gun to purge air from the pump and hose until a steady stream of water flows out. This helps prevent damage to the pump.
  • Starting the Engine: The YAMATIC pump features an "Easy Start" design, allowing for simple and quick cold starts without needing to release pressure before starting the engine. Follow your pressure washer engine's starting procedure.
  • Adjusting Pressure (Unloader): The adjustable unloader allows you to fine-tune the pressure output. Turn the unloader screw clockwise to increase pressure and counter-clockwise to decrease pressure. Adjust as needed for your cleaning task and engine's capability.
  • Chemical Injection: If using detergents, ensure the siphon tube is properly submerged in the detergent solution. The chemical injection system typically works at low pressure.
  • Shutting Down: When finished, turn off the pressure washer engine. Turn off the water supply. Squeeze the trigger gun to release any remaining pressure in the system.

7. Maintenance

The YAMATIC Pressure Washer Pump is designed for minimal maintenance, contributing to its extended durability.

  • Maintenance-Free Crankcase: This pump features a pre-sealed crankcase, meaning you do not need to change the oil. This simplifies maintenance significantly.
  • Thermal Relief Valve (TRV): The TRV automatically protects the pump from overheating if it runs in bypass mode for too long (e.g., when the trigger gun is not squeezed for an extended period). Ensure the TRV is clear of debris.
  • Winterization/Storage: Before storing the pressure washer for extended periods or in freezing temperatures, it is crucial to properly winterize the pump. This typically involves flushing the pump with an antifreeze solution or pump saver to prevent internal damage from freezing water. Always purge all water from the pump and hoses before storage.
  • Inspect Connections: Regularly check all hose connections and fittings for leaks or damage. Tighten or replace as necessary.
  • Clean Inlet Filter: Periodically inspect and clean the filter screen on the water inlet to prevent debris from entering the pump.

8. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your YAMATIC Pressure Washer Pump, refer to the following common problems and solutions:

ProblemPossible CauseSolution
No or Low Pressure
  • Insufficient water supply.
  • Air in the pump.
  • Clogged inlet filter.
  • Unloader valve misadjusted or stuck.
  • Damaged seals or valves (less common for new pump).
  • Ensure water supply is fully open and hose is not kinked.
  • Prime the pump by squeezing the trigger gun until steady water flow.
  • Clean the inlet filter screen.
  • Adjust the unloader valve. If stuck, gently tap or inspect for debris.
  • Contact YAMATIC support if problem persists.
Pump Leaking
  • Loose connections.
  • Damaged O-rings or seals.
  • Cracked housing (unlikely for new pump).
  • Check and tighten all hose and fitting connections.
  • Inspect O-rings and seals for wear or damage; replace if necessary.
  • If housing is cracked, contact YAMATIC support.
Engine Bogs Down / Hard to Start
  • Unloader valve stuck in high-pressure mode.
  • Incorrect pump for engine horsepower.
  • Engine issues (refer to engine manual).
  • Adjust the unloader valve. Ensure it's not fully tightened.
  • Verify pump PSI/GPM matches engine capability.
  • Consult your pressure washer engine's manual for engine-specific troubleshooting.
Pump Does Not Fit Correctly
  • Incorrect shaft size or orientation.
  • Interference with frame cover.
  • Gap between pump and engine flange.
  • Re-check pump specifications (7/8" vertical shaft, front-facing) against your pressure washer.
  • Review Section 5.1 regarding frame cover clearance. Modifications may be necessary.
  • Ensure washers are used if there is a gap between the pump boss and engine flange (refer to Section 5.2).
