1. Overview
This manual provides instructions for the CFKIT Service Filter Kit, designed for LS Tractors models MT122 and MT125. This kit includes essential filters for engine oil, fuel, air, and hydraulics, crucial for maintaining optimal tractor performance and longevity. Regular replacement of these filters is vital for preventing contamination and ensuring efficient operation of your equipment.

Figure 1: Components of the CFKIT Service Filter Kit. This image displays the four filters included in the kit: a red spin-on engine oil filter, a small red pleated fuel filter cartridge, a large cylindrical outer air filter with a metal mesh, and a white spin-on hydraulic filter.
2. Installation Instructions
Before beginning any filter replacement, ensure the tractor is turned off, cooled down, and parked on a level surface with the parking brake engaged. Refer to your tractor's specific service manual for detailed safety precautions and torque specifications.
2.1 Engine Oil Filter Replacement
- Locate the existing engine oil filter on your LS MT122 or MT125 tractor.
- Place a drain pan beneath the filter to catch any residual oil.
- Using an appropriate filter wrench, carefully loosen and remove the old engine oil filter.
- Clean the filter mounting surface on the engine block.
- Apply a thin film of clean engine oil to the gasket of the new CFKIT engine oil filter (Replaces 40356015).
- Thread the new filter onto the engine block by hand until the gasket makes contact.
- Tighten the filter an additional 3/4 to 1 full turn by hand or according to your tractor's service manual specifications. Do not overtighten.
- Refill the engine with the recommended type and amount of engine oil.
2.2 Fuel Filter Cartridge Replacement
- Locate the fuel filter housing. Ensure the fuel supply valve is closed, if applicable.
- Carefully open the fuel filter housing and remove the old fuel filter cartridge (Replaces 40358122). Be prepared for fuel spillage.
- Clean the inside of the fuel filter housing.
- Insert the new CFKIT fuel filter cartridge into the housing, ensuring it is seated correctly.
- Reassemble the housing, ensuring all seals and O-rings are properly in place and not damaged.
- Open the fuel supply valve and bleed the fuel system as per your tractor's service manual to remove any air.
2.3 Outer Air Filter Replacement
- Locate the air filter housing, typically found under the hood or on the side of the engine compartment.
- Unlatch or unbolt the housing cover and carefully remove the old outer air filter (Replaces 40049450).
- Inspect the inside of the air filter housing and clean any debris. Do not use compressed air to clean the housing if it could force debris into the engine intake.
- Insert the new CFKIT outer air filter, ensuring it fits snugly and the seals are properly seated.
- Reattach the housing cover securely.
2.4 Hydraulic Filter Replacement
- Locate the hydraulic filter. This may be a spin-on type or a cartridge type within a housing.
- Place a drain pan beneath the filter to catch hydraulic fluid.
- Carefully remove the old hydraulic filter (Replaces 40195621).
- Clean the mounting surface.
- Apply a thin film of clean hydraulic fluid to the gasket of the new CFKIT hydraulic filter.
- Install the new filter, tightening it by hand or to the specifications in your tractor's service manual.
- Check the hydraulic fluid level and top up if necessary with the recommended fluid type.
3. Maintenance and Replacement Intervals
Regular inspection and timely replacement of filters are critical for the longevity and performance of your LS Tractor. Refer to your tractor's owner's manual for specific service intervals. General guidelines are provided below:
- Engine Oil Filter: Typically replaced with every engine oil change, usually every 50-100 operating hours or annually, whichever comes first.
- Fuel Filter: Replace every 200-400 operating hours or annually, depending on fuel quality and operating conditions. Inspect for water accumulation regularly.
- Outer Air Filter: Inspect frequently (e.g., every 50 hours) and replace as needed, or at least annually. Operating in dusty conditions will require more frequent replacement. Do not attempt to clean paper air filters with compressed air as this can damage the filter media.
- Hydraulic Filter: Replace every 200-500 operating hours or annually, or as recommended by your tractor's manufacturer.
Note on Filter Brands: The CFKIT service filter kit may contain filters from various reputable brands such as Donaldson, Fleetguard, Baldwin, Sure Filter, HIFI, and WIX. All filters provided meet or exceed OEM specifications for your LS Tractor MT122 and MT125 models.
4. Troubleshooting
4.1 Filter Does Not Fit
If a filter from the kit does not appear to fit your specific LS MT122 or MT125 model, double-check the part numbers against your tractor's service manual or the old filter. While CFKIT strives for compatibility, variations can occur. Contact CFKIT customer support with your tractor's exact model and year for assistance.
4.2 Leaks After Installation
If you observe leaks after installing a new filter:
- Ensure the old gasket or O-ring was completely removed from the mounting surface.
- Verify the new filter is tightened to the correct specification. Overtightening or undertightening can cause leaks.
- Inspect the new filter's gasket or O-ring for any damage or improper seating.
- Confirm the filter is the correct type and size for the application.
4.3 Reduced Performance After Filter Change
If engine performance is reduced (e.g., loss of power, rough running) after changing fuel or air filters:
- For fuel filters, ensure the fuel system has been properly bled of air. Air in the fuel lines can cause engine sputtering or failure to start.
- For air filters, ensure the housing is securely closed and there are no leaks around the filter seal, which could allow unfiltered air into the engine.
