5. Operating Instructions
The Mastfuyi Network Cable Tester offers multiple functions for diagnosing network and telephone cables.
5.1 Cable Sequence Calibration (Network Cable Test)
This function detects the wiring sequence, open circuits, short circuits, wrong pairs, and reverse connections in network cables (Cat5, Cat6).
- Connect one end of the network cable to the RJ45 port on the main transmitter unit.
- Connect the other end of the network cable to the RJ45 port on the receiver unit (if applicable, or the remote unit).
- Turn the function knob on the main unit to the 'NETWORK' or 'TEST' position (refer to device markings).
- Observe the LED indicators or display on both units. They will light up in sequence, indicating the wiring status. Any deviation (e.g., missing lights, incorrect sequence, or lights indicating short/open) will identify the fault.
5.2 RJ45/RJ11 Cable Tracking (Line Finding)
This feature allows you to locate a specific cable within a bundle without stripping its insulation.
- Connect the RJ45 or RJ11 cable to be traced to the corresponding port on the main transmitter unit.
- Turn the function knob on the main unit to the 'SCAN' or 'TONE' position. The transmitter will generate an audible tone.
- Use the receiver/probe unit to scan along the cable path. The probe will emit an audible sound, which will be loudest when it is near the target cable.
- Adjust the sensitivity of the receiver if available, to pinpoint the exact cable.
5.3 Telephone Line Status Detection
This function helps determine the operational status of a telephone line (idle, ringing, off-hook) and identify TIP or RING lines.
- Connect the RJ11 test lead to the telephone line and the corresponding port on the main unit.
- Turn the function knob to the 'PHONE' or 'LINE' position.
- The device will indicate the line status (e.g., LED for idle, flashing for ringing, continuous for off-hook) and identify the TIP and RING lines.
5.4 Cable Level and Positive/Negative Polarity Detection
Use the transmitter to detect the DC level or positive and negative polarity of a line.
- Connect the test leads to the line you wish to test.
- Select the appropriate DC voltage or polarity detection mode on the main unit.
- The display will show the DC voltage level and indicate the polarity (positive or negative).
5.5 Transmitter Undervoltage Indication
The device includes a low battery warning to ensure reliable operation.
- When the function knob of the transmitter is set to the 'SCAN' position, if the transmitter's battery voltage falls below the operational threshold, the 'SCAN' indicator will flash.
- When this indicator flashes, replace the batteries immediately to maintain accuracy and functionality.
5.6 Additional Features

Figure 4: The device features a bright LCD backlight, a protective rubber sheath, and a stable back bracket for convenience.
- Bright LCD Backlight: Improves visibility in dimly lit environments.
- Protective Rubber Sheath: Provides durability and protection against drops and impacts.
- Stable Back Bracket: Allows the device to stand upright for hands-free operation.
6. Maintenance
6.1 Battery Replacement
When the undervoltage indicator flashes, replace the batteries:
- Ensure the device is powered off.
- Open the battery compartment on the back.
- Remove the old batteries and dispose of them according to local regulations.
- Insert new AAA batteries, observing correct polarity.
- Close the battery compartment securely.
6.2 General Care
- Keep the device clean and dry. Wipe with a soft, damp cloth if necessary. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
- Store the device in its carrying case when not in use to protect it from dust and damage.
- Avoid exposing the device to extreme temperatures or humidity, as this can affect its performance and lifespan.
7. Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues with your Mastfuyi Network Cable Tester, refer to the following common problems and solutions:
- Device does not power on: Check battery installation and ensure batteries are not depleted. Replace if necessary.
- No tone during cable tracking: Ensure the transmitter is set to 'SCAN' or 'TONE' mode and the cable is properly connected. Check the receiver's battery.
- Inaccurate cable test results: Verify that the test leads are securely connected and the cable under test is not damaged. Ensure batteries are not low.
- Difficulty pinpointing a cable: Adjust the sensitivity of the receiver probe. Ensure there are no strong electromagnetic interferences nearby.
- Display shows 'OL' or 'Err': This may indicate an over-range condition or a fault in the circuit being tested. Refer to specific error codes in the full user manual if available.
