Setup and Installation
Follow these steps for proper assembly and installation of your sand filter pump.
- Positioning the Pump: Place the sand filter pump on a solid, level surface, at least 2 feet (0.6 meters) away from the pool. Ensure the location is dry, well-ventilated, and protected from direct sunlight and rain.
- Assembling the Tank and Pump:
- Attach the pump motor to the filter tank base.
- Ensure all connections are secure and sealed with O-rings where necessary.

- Adding Filter Media:
- Remove the multi-port valve from the top of the tank.
- Place the standpipe and laterals assembly inside the tank.
- Carefully pour the recommended amount of filter sand (silica sand No. 20 or glass filter media 0.45/0.85mm) into the tank. Ensure the standpipe remains centered.
- Replace the multi-port valve, ensuring it's securely fastened to the tank.

- Connecting Hoses:
- Connect the pump's inlet to the pool's outlet (skimmer/main drain).
- Connect the pump's outlet to the pool's inlet (return jet).
- Connect the waste port of the multi-port valve to a suitable drainage area.
- Secure all hose connections with clamps to prevent leaks.
- Priming the Pump: Before starting, ensure the pump is primed by filling the pump housing with water. This prevents airlocks and ensures proper operation.

Operating the Sand Filter Pump
The multi-port valve allows for different operating modes:
- Filter: Normal filtering mode. Water flows through the sand and returns to the pool.
- Backwash: Cleans the sand filter by reversing water flow. Use when pressure gauge indicates high pressure or water flow is reduced.
- Rinse: Used after backwashing to settle the sand and flush out any remaining dirt before returning to filter mode.
- Waste: Bypasses the filter and pumps water directly out of the waste port. Useful for vacuuming heavy debris or lowering pool water level.
- Recirculate: Circulates water without filtering. Useful for distributing chemicals.
- Closed: Shuts off all flow to the filter. Use only when the pump is off.
Important: Always turn off the pump before changing the multi-port valve position.

Maintenance
Regular maintenance ensures optimal performance and longevity of your sand filter pump.
- Backwashing: Perform backwashing when the pressure gauge reads 3-5 PSI (0.21-0.35 Bar) above the starting clean pressure, or when water flow to the pool is noticeably reduced.
- Turn off the pump.
- Set the multi-port valve to "Backwash".
- Turn on the pump and backwash until the water in the sight glass is clear (approx. 2-3 minutes).
- Turn off the pump.
- Set the multi-port valve to "Rinse".
- Turn on the pump and rinse for 30-60 seconds.
- Turn off the pump.
- Set the multi-port valve to "Filter".
- Turn on the pump for normal operation.
- Sand Replacement: Filter sand typically needs to be replaced every 3-5 years, depending on usage and water quality. Glass filter media may last longer.
- Winterization: Before freezing temperatures, drain all water from the pump, filter tank, and hoses. Store the unit in a dry, protected area.
- Cleaning: Periodically clean the pump's strainer basket (if applicable) and inspect all O-rings and seals for wear.
Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Pump not starting | No power; GFCI/RCD tripped; Motor overheated; Impeller jammed. | Check power connection; Reset GFCI/RCD; Allow motor to cool; Clear impeller of debris. |
| Low water flow | Clogged filter sand; Clogged strainer basket; Air leak in suction line; Low water level in pool. | Backwash/Rinse filter; Clean strainer basket; Check hose connections for leaks; Add water to pool. |
| Water leaking from pump/valve | Loose connections; Damaged O-rings/seals; Cracked housing. | Tighten connections; Replace O-rings/seals; Contact customer support for replacement parts. |
| Cloudy pool water | Insufficient filtration time; Dirty filter sand; Improper chemical balance. | Increase filtration time; Backwash/Rinse filter; Test and adjust pool chemicals. |
