4. Setup and Installation

4.1 Mounting

Mount the contactor vertically on a DIN rail or using screws through the designated mounting holes. Ensure sufficient clearance around the contactor for ventilation and wiring access.

4.2 Wiring Connections

Refer to the wiring diagram provided with the product and the labels on the contactor for correct connections. Use appropriate wire gauges for the rated current.

  • Power Terminals (L1, L2, L3): Connect the incoming three-phase power supply to these terminals.
  • Load Terminals (T1, T2, T3 - typically opposite L1, L2, L3): Connect the motor or load to these terminals.
  • Coil Terminals (A1, A2): Connect the control voltage (200-220VAC 50Hz / 220-240VAC 60Hz) to energize the contactor coil.
  • Auxiliary Contacts (13 NO, 23 NO, etc.): These contacts are used in the control circuit for interlocking, signaling, or other control functions. The SC-05 typically includes 1 Normally Open (NO) and 1 Normally Closed (NC) auxiliary contact.

Torque all terminal screws to the specified values to ensure secure electrical connections.

5. Operating Principles

The SC-05 contactor operates by energizing its electromagnetic coil. When the control voltage is applied to terminals A1 and A2, the coil generates a magnetic field, which pulls the armature, causing the main power contacts to close and the auxiliary contacts to change state. When the control voltage is removed, the magnetic field collapses, and springs return the contacts to their original positions, opening the main power circuit.

6. Maintenance

Regular maintenance helps ensure the longevity and reliable operation of the contactor.

  • Inspection: Periodically inspect the contactor for signs of wear, damage, or overheating (discoloration). Check for loose connections.
  • Cleaning: Keep the contactor free from dust, dirt, and foreign objects. Use a dry, lint-free cloth for cleaning. Do not use solvents.
  • Contact Check: If possible and safe, inspect the main contacts for pitting or excessive wear. Replace the contactor if contacts are severely degraded.
  • Terminal Tightness: Re-tighten terminal screws periodically, especially in environments with vibration.

7. Troubleshooting

If the contactor is not functioning as expected, consider the following common issues:

  • Contactor does not energize:
    • Check control voltage at A1 and A2.
    • Verify control circuit wiring and fuses.
    • Ensure the coil is not damaged (e.g., open circuit).
  • Contactor energizes but load does not receive power:
    • Check main power supply to L1, L2, L3.
    • Inspect main contacts for severe wear or welding.
    • Verify load wiring.
  • Contactor hums excessively or overheats:
    • Check for incorrect coil voltage.
    • Ensure proper mounting and ventilation.
    • Inspect for mechanical obstruction or foreign material.
