4.2 Software Configuration (AP/LAN Bridge Mode)

The default mode for the Range Extender is AP mode. Follow these steps to configure the device via a web browser.

  1. Connect to the Extender: Connect your computer directly to the extender via an Ethernet cable, or wirelessly connect to the extender's default Wi-Fi network (usually named "WAVLINK_N" or similar, without a password).
  2. Access Web Interface: Open a web browser and enter the default IP address (e.g., 192.168.10.1) into the address bar. Refer to the Quick Installation Guide for the exact default IP.
  3. Login: Enter the default username and password (usually "admin" for both).
  4. Select Mode: Navigate to the "Wizard" or "Operation Mode" section. Select "APLAN Bridge" (AP Mode) or "Repeater" or "Router" based on your network requirements.
  5. Configure Settings: Follow the on-screen prompts to configure your Wi-Fi network name (SSID), password, and other relevant settings.
  6. Save and Reboot: Save your settings and allow the device to reboot.

5. Operating Modes

The WAVLINK AC600 supports multiple operating modes to adapt to various network scenarios:

Image: Visual representation of the three main operating modes: WISP, Repeater, and Router/AP, showing how the device connects to different network setups.

5.1 Repeater Mode

In Repeater mode, the device extends the coverage of an existing wireless network. It receives the wireless signal from your main router and re-transmits it, effectively expanding the Wi-Fi range to areas with weak or no signal. This mode is ideal for large homes, offices, or outdoor spaces where the existing Wi-Fi signal needs to be boosted.

5.2 AP (Access Point) Mode / LAN Bridge Mode

In AP mode, the device connects to a wired network (e.g., via an Ethernet cable from your router) and broadcasts a new wireless signal. This transforms a wired connection into a wireless one, allowing multiple devices to connect wirelessly. This is useful for adding Wi-Fi capability to a wired-only network or creating a new Wi-Fi hotspot.

5.3 Router Mode

In Router mode, the device acts as a primary router, connecting to a DSL or Cable modem. It creates a new private network, assigning IP addresses to connected devices and managing network traffic. This mode is suitable for setting up a new network from scratch or replacing an existing router.

7. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your WAVLINK AC600, refer to the following common troubleshooting steps:

  1. No Power:
    • Ensure the power adapter is securely connected to both the PoE injector and a working power outlet.
    • Verify the Ethernet cable from the extender is correctly plugged into the "PoE" port of the injector.
  2. Cannot Access Web Management Page:
    • Confirm your computer is connected to the extender's network (either via Ethernet or its default Wi-Fi).
    • Check that you are entering the correct default IP address (e.g., 192.168.10.1) in your browser.
    • Temporarily disable any firewall or antivirus software on your computer that might be blocking access.
    • Try a different web browser.
  3. Weak or Unstable Signal:
    • Adjust the position of the extender and its antennas for optimal signal reception.
    • Ensure there are no major obstructions (e.g., thick walls, metal objects) between the extender and your main router or client devices.
    • Check for sources of interference (e.g., microwaves, cordless phones) and move the extender away from them.
    • Verify that the extender is operating in the correct mode (Repeater, AP, or Router) for your network setup.
  4. Forgot Login Password:
    • Perform a factory reset by pressing and holding the Reset button for approximately 8 seconds until the LED indicators flash. This will revert all settings to default, including the login credentials.
  5. Internet Connection Issues:
    • Ensure your main router has a working internet connection.
    • If in Repeater mode, confirm the extender is successfully connected to your main router's Wi-Fi network.
    • If in Router mode, verify the connection to your modem.
