1. Introduction

3. Setup

3.1 Battery Installation

  1. Open the battery compartment cover on the back of the device.
  2. Insert four 1.5V AA batteries, ensuring correct polarity (+/-).
  3. Close the battery compartment cover securely.

3.2 Attaching the Arm Cuff

  1. Connect the air tube of the cuff to the air socket on the left side of the blood pressure monitor.
  2. Ensure the connection is firm and secure.

3.3 Setting Date and Time

4. Operating Instructions

4.1 Preparing for Measurement

  • Avoid eating, smoking, or exercising for at least 30 minutes before measurement.
  • Rest for 5-10 minutes in a calm environment before taking a reading.
  • Sit comfortably with your back supported and feet flat on the floor.
  • Place your arm on a table so the cuff is at heart level.

4.2 Applying the Arm Cuff

  1. Roll up your sleeve. Do not place the cuff over thick clothing.
  2. Place the cuff directly on your bare upper arm, approximately 2-3 cm above the elbow joint.
  3. Ensure the air tube runs along the center of your arm.
  4. Tighten the cuff firmly but not too tightly. The arrow on the cuff should fall within the white band.

4.3 Taking a Measurement

  1. Press the START/STOP button to begin the measurement.
  2. The cuff will inflate automatically. Remain still and silent during the measurement.
  3. Once the measurement is complete, the cuff will deflate, and your systolic (SYS), diastolic (DIA) blood pressure, and pulse (PUL) values will be displayed on the LCD screen.
  4. The device will announce the results via its voice output function in the selected language.
  5. The results are automatically saved to the selected user memory.

4.4 Understanding Your Results

The monitor displays three key values:

  • SYS (Systolic Pressure): The highest pressure in your arteries when your heart beats.
  • DIA (Diastolic Pressure): The lowest pressure in your arteries when your heart rests between beats.
  • PUL (Pulse Rate): Your heart rate, measured in beats per minute.

The device also features a traffic light color scale on the left side of the display for easy classification of your blood pressure results according to WHO guidelines.

4.5 Voice Output Function

The BU 586 Voice is equipped with a voice output function that announces your measurement values. This function supports German, English, Dutch, French, Italian, and Turkish. You can select your preferred language in the device settings.

4.6 Memory Function

The device can store 120 measurement results for each of two users. To access stored readings, press the M button. Use the + button to scroll through previous measurements. The voice output can also replay stored results.

4.7 Irregular Heartbeat Detection

The monitor can detect and indicate possible pulse arrhythmias. If an irregular heartbeat symbol appears on the display, consult your physician for evaluation. Only a medical professional can assess the type and severity of an arrhythmia.

4.8 Motion Detector

To ensure accurate measurement results, the BU 586 Voice includes a motion detector. If excessive movement is detected during measurement, an error symbol will appear, indicating a potential application error. This helps ensure more precise readings.

5. Maintenance

5.1 Cleaning

  • Clean the device and cuff with a soft, dry cloth.
